Just bought a coupe and am planning on towing it on a UHAUL Car Hauler anyone had any experience with these trailers? A dolly style was suggested too? Any comments, advice etc would be great:)

I towed a 79 Suburban on one about 15 years ago or so. They made me rent one of their trucks as the tow vehicle to get the trailer. Not sure they still have that prerequisite but the trailer was nice and tracked well.

  3. If the wheels, tires, and bearings are in good shape you could probably flat tow it with one of their towbars, or on a tow dolly.

It should fit on the trailer okay, they're not the best in the world but as long as everything on it is in good shape when you rent it you should be okay. They're made for smaller cars. I think they have a small hand winch on the front.

I towed my 41 Chevy coupe with a suburban from Fla to WV with a uhaul trailer, and it was horrible. Swayed the whole way. Couldn't poop for 3 days cause my ****hole was so tight.. Was told that the suburban was a horrible tow vwhicle, but mine did nothing but sway the whole way. Just give me the A model, I'll get it home.

...I'd look around and try to borrow/rent a trailer from some other car guy, I've heard those U-haul trailers are heavy. That Model A is not a real heavy car.
Somebody local should have a trailer they'd rent or haul for you. Check at local shows/swaps/cruz-nites,...you'll find one.

The u-haul trailers are fairly heavy but I towed one with a 31 coupe on it from Reno all the way back to Wisconsin with V-6 Toyota 4wd and had no problems. Of course the gas mileage was terrible. That was about three years ago and I thought I spent a lot on gas, I'm sure it would easily cost twice as much now.

It wasn't the Suburban that was at fault. It was the hitch, the trailer or the way you had it loaded or a combination of those. I've towed many a mile with a Burb and the only time I ever had a problem was when the load couldn't be situated right. IE light tongue. I wouldn't use a dolly

My burb gets swayeee sometimes but the leaves are on the way out. Have to keep that in perspective, one of the best tow vehicles of all time. Period. You probably loaded it wrong or had too much weight in the back of your truck, ****ty springs, ****ty air pressure etc.

So what kind of 30 coupe, stocker, rod or a roller ?

  10. i used a u-haul trailer to get my friends '50 merc home. towed it with my moms 94 chevy 1/2 ton pick-up, we had no problems just took it slow and used the gears on the downhills. the only deal with u-haul is they look up on the computer by car being towed vs. the towing vehicle and they don't go back to far year wise (the only old car they have is a truck). i told them i was towing a '64 mustang and they let me rent the trailer. check out online you'll see.

it was a little nose heavy, but took it slow.

I bought a 30 coupe on a 32 ch***is and towed it on a uhaul trailer. It only cost about $50 something dollars for 24hours. No problem at all. I used my 2008 Toyota 2wd pickup. good luck. Uhaul asked me what truck i was towing with and what car I was towing. Tell the truth, believe it or not the 30 coupe was in the system.

NEVER NEVER NEVER USE A DOLLY! Flatbed tow truck or trailer. You'll be happy that you did. For a few dollars more it's worth the piece of mind.

Did that trailer have wheel straps front and rear or just fronts?
    Thanks

The one I used had a tongue brake. When the vehicle momentum slows from braking, the trailer's momentum carries it forward pushing on some mechanism to engage trailer brakes. This locked up on me. I was unable to get anyone to come swap the trailer out, I had to drag it 50 miles to a uhaul to swap it out. Another time previously rented one which turned out to have p***enger car tires on it. I found this out when one blew out on the sidewall.
Find a standard flatbed from someone else. Lighter, less mechanical, easier to tow.

Thank Everyone........looks like I have to stick with them as nobody else would rent just a trailer. Truck& Trailer combo was WAY WAY to much money as I go to Ca to get it and return home to AZ. Thanks Again Guys!!
