Help - Can anyone tell me what this is?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by SoCalCarCulture, May 13, 2008.

  1. Hopefully someone can tell me what this is?

A friend picked this scooter up recently but doesn't know what it is, no markings or numbers that he can find. It has a 48" wheel base and 5 1/2" or 6" wheels.

I would appreciate any info you can provide or leads on who might know.
Oh yes, he also would like to know what the correct engine would be and where to look for one.

    Thanks for your help...

Might be Sears or Montgomery Wards.

I dont know but I'd put an electric motor on it and cruise the swaps and car shows with it.

Had a Cushman just about like that. Engine was a 5/8 HP Briggs, cast iron, like on an old washing machine. A 3 Horse aluminum Briggs will work, and be a whole lot nicer to ride.

  9. Hmmm - doesn't look like any Doodle Bug pics I can find, but the engine cover looks different from the Cushmans .

    Any other ideas?

If it's from the 40's, It most likely had a briggs model N, 5s or 6s on it and looked something like this (6s) All less than 1hp. My guess is that it would have been an N though. I doubt it was a WMB or WI. They were only 2/3 hp. I know quite a bit about these old briggs.
