remember the R&C dream truck?..it was basically built from ideas submitted by readers of Rod and Custom Magazine back in the 50s..The truck was brought to various custom shops, and quite a few customizers had a hand in it,,i believe gene winfield sectioned the hood,,Gary Metz did the fins, etc, etc,,I can't recall who else worked on it, but I know there were quite a few customizers,,,,,,, what if we did a HAMB version of the R&C dream truck,,or maybe a car?,,,,there are so many talented craftsmen on this board, and so many guys with great ideas and vision, im sure we could come up with something to rival or surp*** the original Dream Truck,,, Just an idea I had,,could turn out to be a really cool and fun thing,,,throwing it out there to see if anyone else would be up for it.... or maybe it's a dumb idea,,,you don't know until you ask, right?? It goes without saying that Ryan would have to approve the idea before it goes any further,, what do you guys think? could something like this possibly work?
That would actually be kinda cool... shops could offer up a "custom" job on one section of the car. The only problem would be getting it shipped from shop to shop!
I think that would be a great Idea. I know that I'd be willing to put some time into something like that and I would bet that there are plenty of others out there that would love to get their name out there on a collaboration project. And when it was at shows it would spread the word of the HAMB.
Somebody would have to donate a car or truck to the cause... I know there would be a lot of back and forth between what platform to start with, that or to many people will probable try to donate cars
It's a good idea... Are you thinking a custom, or maybe a hot rod? Built with entirely donated parts..or funded by HAMB auctions? Then raffled off or perhaps donated to a good cause? hmmm.....
Still Runnin Magazine will cover the progress and promote it in each issue. Lea, publisher Still Runnin Magazine, Real People, Real Stories, Real Homegrowns. Not the Rich and Famous! www.stillrunnin.com
i think it is a great idea!!!,to bad you didnt think of this sooner..your kid could drove that to the prom j/k
sounds like fun....will it be drawn by some of the art types here on the board? A sweet rendering could get everybodys motor running for a build. I have limited skills but I would like to take part or at least provide a part.
I suggested this 4-5 years ago only doing a Bonneville car. Picking a reasonable cl***, donated parts and sharing the work utilizing speciality skills of the many talented board members. The idea died a quick death. Maybe a custom would fare better. Frank
I think a custom would fare much better. The Bonneville car is such a small margain of ppl on here. Not that Im not into it, but I dont think I personally know anyone who will have a salt flat car, or even ever go there in person and I know a ton of folks. I do however know a bunch of ppl who own hot rods and custom cars tho. If it started out over here Im sure I could find a suitable ride. I do keep my ears to the pavement to see whats for sale on the cheap.
Man can't believe I'm first to the punch. I vote for flat black with red wheels. And maybe a HAMB iron cross on the back. Sometimes, like the dream truck, these things turn out well. Sometimes, like Romania's Steven Colbert/Chuck Norris bridge, these things don't turn out so well. Would be a fun ride either way.
I'd actually PayPal a few bucks to help pay for the transportation and the original starting platform (truck). I doubt seriously if anyone would want to 'donate' what we'd want to start with...it should be decent enough to with without having to worry about patch panels and rust issues. Maybe it could be raffled off after the build to some lucky HAMBer? Or, gasp...sold on eBay? With the proceeds going to charity?
eaIt would have to be funded by someone, and they would make the ultimate decisions on how to build it. Otherwise, nobody would agree on each styling choice, paint color, component selection, stance, drivetrain choice, etc.
I know this is probably not the coolest thing we could use, but I have 3, 1954 ford ranch wagons. I could donate one of them. A custom wagon could be REALLY cool. Or is that just me?
Ill donate my sweat and what meager skills i have. I will sling bondo & sand & maybe i can learn something.
this was tried a few years ago and it kinda just petered out. i think it will be very difficult to get people to agree on something, so each idea should probably put into a poll and just go with the majority opinion.
I have a 50 Plymouth parts car who's body is in too good of shape to junk. It's a 4 door with no floors, but otherwise pretty solid. I could donate that to the cause. John
