Has anybody here ever heated and bent the speedway bolt on arms? I have the dropped arms and need about ½ inch more drop to clear the bottom of the bone. Not sure what there made of, book no say. Just trying to get this front end together tonite. Don’t harsh me please for the bolt on’s, not my f/e.………Thanks
I'd like to know too because I have to do the same on my project. Is it going to weaken it too much? I dont want to f**k with my life too much.
Just checked there site, no clue to what there made of. I do suspect there cast china ****. Were U been P smurf
I did it ,not to hot and slowly using plenty of leverage rather than heat. Dull red in sunlight. Don't try for a sharp tight bend though. Don't ask !! LOL
Like Scott said, I'm pretty sure their china cast junk. Your going to be putting a lot of stress on those arms at times so I seriously recommend you or a qualified fabricator build what you need. Steering and brakes are a good place to spend your dough. Terry
Might be better off finding a set of 46 up bent bones. Clears the steering and will save you the trouble of bending a part that shouldnt be bent!
See if you can flip your split whishbones over. Model a's give you about 1/2 inch more clearance if flipped. you will also have to pie cut and lean them back again but this is probably safer than bending cast arms. My opinion.
there is a guy on Ebay ..bobs rat rod parts (..i know..i know..haha) who makes some good stuff. His steering arms are nice and relatively cheap. Like $25 or so. They are heavy and made of steel. I had to heat and bend it and it worked fine for me. I don't have any experience with the speedway ones
Update Called speedway and the arms are forgings. I bent um down no problem. Im working on a unsplit 34 roadster pickup front end. Messing with the 500 dollar bone wasnt an option. Thanks for all the input, bend away.
