I'm thinking about buying a 69 Buick Skylark that has its original 350.The engine was upgraded with the following: edelbrock 4 Brl. Carb. (originally a 2 Brl.) , edelbrock performer intake and cam, and headers. The engine was rebuilt (30 over), she has a turbo 350 ******, and a new posi rear. The car was converted to an electronic ignition and the compression ratio allows her to run on regular octane gas. My question is this, what kind of gas mileage can I expect with this car? Are these Skylarks good for everyday use? Oh yeah, the owner put on a hood from a GS, so the car has functional cold air (the sealed sysyem with the Buick air cleaner (k&N filter).Thank you so much for your help, MikeyC!!!!!!!
Any car that's built well, reliable and turns you on is suitable for daily driving, in my opinion. Gas mileage? If you keep your foot out of it you'll probably be in the high teens. I have a '65 Skylark that is my daily driver.
If you want good gas milage get a honda . I had a 69 shylark is was a heavy gas pig but had a lot of fun in it . It was stock so id say with the work done to this one it will be bad on gas . But if you like it get it.
My brother had one. 69 GS400 Stage 1,close ratio 4 speed, and a 3.64 posi rear, all stock. Would pull down 15 mpg on the hwy IF you kept your foot outta the secondaries, and lay rubber on demand. one of the funnest driving cars ever.Torque Rules! Unfortunately, the kid he sold it to wrapped it around a pole in less than a week...
Go here www.v8buick.com they will have a ton of stuff for your car since it is OT for this board. My wife has a 71 convertible and I nail down about 20mpg average with the stock motor.
20 should be possible with a quadrajet or quadrajet clone if you keep out of the secondaries. Depends on what gear is in it to some extent, though.
V8 Buick is the place to be for anything buick. I've been a member there since 2002. And should you buy a skylark. Absolutely!!
