i am considering painting my truck olive green (the "camoflauge" olive spray paint from walmart) for now sincei have come to the realization that in 2 years i will be stripping it back down to bare metal again anyways.... anyone have pics so i can see what it might look like?
go army! jesse james , i believe had a olive drab 54, one of the magizines built a 70-72 camaro that color, ten thousand 4x4s, and a couple hundred thousand army vehicles have been painted with olive drab. put some offical looking numbers on the side and some flags on the fenders and a big star emblem on the door ;presto army clone. just messin wit ya! it would be cool if you can keep it from looking all streaked.
If you plan on spray bombing iit with a rattle can use any color semi gloss or flat rustoleum or some other tinted primer. That color green makes these trucks look as if they are ex-army vehicles, which is fine if that's the look you're going after, but there are alot more options than the "camo line" of rattle can paint. I think there's a picture of an olive drab tri five chevy truck on this forum in the offical 55-59 chevy truck thread. PM me if you want to discuss this more. I have a 57 Chevy short bed pick up that's flat white and runs a big block. I had the stock three speed and a hopped up 235 in it too, so I'm pretty knowledgable about these vehicles. Good Luck, Seth
well, i have a set of crager SS wheels that are badly chipped, so i'm planning to scuff them up and paint them flat black, and i figured the olive would look good with the black wheels.... i'm gonna look for that thread now...
I thought about it, too, but I decided it might be more "rednecky" than I really wanted to go. Mine still has fairly stock suspension and huge *** commando tires. This guy is on the HAMB somewhere: Anywho, more pictures of this here: http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y212/cdorneman/1956 Chevy Truck/
Olive vehicles: This is where to buy the Gillespie paint, its the paint most military vehicle restoration guys use. I just ordered two gallons, 3 cans for $144.00 with shipping and hazmat charges (for my Mustang project): http://www.armyjeepparts.com/order_page/paint_bottom_1.htm If you like high speed high dollar stuff this is the paint for you: http://www.milspray.com/products/mv-restoration-paint.html
The more I see it, the more I like it. I think that truck of yours would look pretty good with olive drab paint and some black wheels. Seth
