you need to get another top and start over. do the windshield first. cut it, sink it or whatever. then chop the car to fit.

Holy ****! That's scary! That's the exact color my '62 used to be before we painted it(candy purple/green lace top). We mixed in some green base coat with the primer and came up with "grayeen" but it looks like somebody already did!

A friend of mine at work chopped this car and now someone else at work owns it. He cut the windsheild, sank and leaned the rear window, and the side gl*** is lexan. The color is actually a light blue.

why is it every one thinks the gl*** has to be wider when you strech the header ???

if you drop the roof down and split it to line up the post it is the same with just the top cut off the gl***.

when you angle the post in on the bottom and out on the top the edges of the gl*** no have to be cut and in a wrap around windshield it now become a bigger problem of the gl*** not fitting. also the door gl*** channels have to be moved at the bottom so there is not a kink in the channel. Most dont do this and wonder why windows are tuff to roll up and down and crack.

Good luck....tough to finish that one, and even tougher to make it look better than a stock roof. 62's were beautiful......prove me wrong!!:)

On this car, there is no way to cut the top off the windshield and make it fit again....it wraps over the top, around the vent windows.

I'd say go buy two windshields, cut them a little longer than in half, and **** them together.

If I'd put any other roof on a 62', i'd have to be a cool *** 60's bubbletop, maybe a 61 roof ??.. other than that.. I'd leave it alone, but thats just me.. good luck, looks like lots of work!

Anyone know if this car ever did get finished ??

EDIT : Anthony, I'm with you man. I've I were ever to altar the roof on a '62 Impala 2 door hardtop, it would be to swap it with a '61-'62 Bubbletop......and then go drag racing ! Other than that, they are perfect as is.

dont listen to em' you will get it back together. i have done a ton of them. the w/s is the worst part. A good gl*** guy will fix that up for you.Its gonna be way cool. A friend of mine did a 58 impala a few years back. VERY COOL.

Too much. I think the concept might've been ok but the amount is excessive for that car. Looks like a good vision going the wrong way. 2" might be perfect for a chop on that car, then roll off the breaks at the back of the roof and let the rear gl*** stay full size. At that point a 2" chop may look like 3+. It is your car tho and if you like it...

since this is an old post, I checked this guys profile... last activity 2/16 07 , join date 1/21 07.. wonder if all the negativity scared him off?
IMO (if he is still out there) I would cut the w/s first, and redo the front posts to fit, he took 6.5 out of the top, I would try 4 off the winshield, and then lay it back some to make it really flow.

Look at the pics, the body isn't braced at all. A hardtop with the roof lopped off and not braced...only God knows where everything ended up. That's a real shame, 2 door hardtops aren't getting easier to find. More balls than brains on that one. The best bet would be not to get a new roof and try again, but take the car to a pro builder who knows what they're doing.

now lets see what happens with the gl***. doesnt look too bad, does make the car look really long though. definately glad that it was put together though. looks cool, but try a different color on it, has to be dark though. maybe a dark charcoal or something. cool though.

uhhhhh... Maybe start looking for an impala donor car in Michigan or something that is rusty up to the door handles, then weld a stock roof back on it. At least then you could finish it and drive it.

Doesn't look that bad, but without paint and windows, it's just another Ol Skool Rods car!!!! There's too many" half***ed" cars out there where guys HAD to chop them, then didn't have a clue how to finish it! Waste of a nice car.

So what is the plan for the gl***?

If you can't get the gl*** back in, I'd say you ruined a nice car.

The goal is to be able to step back and say you really improved on the original design...
