I'm trying to dress up my 401 Buick nailhead and I'm wondering if anyone makes a nice aluminum thermostat housing. Mine is pretty krusty, as are most of the ones I've seen.
try using one off a small block chevy. I was told they are the same .however I found a good buick one and that ended my research.
Just keep your eyes open on ebay. There was a really nice one on there a week ago, and I forgot to bid (it was less than 8 bucks, plus shipping). Just be sure to ask if the "NOS" housings are aluminum or iron. They made replacements for the parts stores, but they were iron. Factory is aluminum. I've scored a few nice Nailhead "bent" t-stat housings off the '55-'58 or so cars. The ones before the straight up and down version. Just start shopping ebay regularly--you'll find one. -Brad
$60 clams for a t-stat housing? I guess I gotta get a better payin job!! LOL That chrome, straight-up housing from Mr. Gasket I got at Advance Auto works just fine for less than a quarter of that. I know I'm a cheap ******* but $60??!! OUCH!
I thought the same thing. I don't find spending a few $$, but $60 is a lot for a thermostat housing. I know it's a quality piece, BUT....
