thats to bad, some people just have no brains or respect. I went to a local car show Saturday, I took my 5 and 3 year old and on the way in I told them look, but don't touch and a few reminders as we walked around. they did great. At one point I couldn't help but notice some idiot with I think three kids attached to him with kidleashes climbing all over and touching someones car, what is wrong with people! idiots!!

Correct me if I'm wrong but if the rod was tight shouldn't it take a wrench to loosen the nut where the rod connects to the firewall?

The reason I point this out is I experienced much the same thing only I had overlooked tightening mine,,,both were loose. HRP

I'm sorry. I was drunk. But Elton John sure can rock the house, eh?

When I was five, I carved "I love you" into my dad's gun rack using a nail I found. I got a severe spanking. The irony makes me smile.

I'd like to think that the damage to your car WASN'T caused intentionally by someone at the show, but this is the Internet, so we'll continue to speculate, never knowing, until the end of time. Oh Internet, you sweet and mysterious.

I've never had a car with a support rod like that, but it would seem to me that the support would go through the firewall and you'd put a washer and bolt on under the dash...

He was probably writing DON'T GO TO ELTON JOHN CONCERTS and something scared him off part way through.

No,,,they have a round head much like a carrage bolt that slips into a bracket that is bolted or rivited to the firewall,,or at least the originals did,,,

    I don't really know in this case.HRP

why do people have to touc h cars at shows? They all should know better YOU WOULD THINK BY NOW. So everybody got to rope their cars off or what? Makes guys and gals not want to put their cars in shows either that or get an ***ult charge. Makes me sick to see people touch when they shouldnt be.

I can't imagine an adult doing that. I'm thinking some idiot let his/her kids loose and I envision a kid trying to climb up on your car and pop! Somebody, regardless of age, needs an *** whippin'.

Great looking car! What is the deal with the original gas shutoff valve in the recessed firewall and lack of a gas cap on top of the tank?

The shut-off valve still operates as a shut off but the tank is in the trunk.

My car is so beat up and rusty that most folks wouldn't dare touch it. :D

****s about the coupe my man.. but I gotta say in the grand scheme of things you got off light. I hope like hell it doesn't happen again. Seems that most people these days are complete *****s and ***holes. They usually don't even realize it.

Hey, I love your coupe, too. It's up there towards Rolf's on my HAMB fav A-bone list.

A heads-up on those radiator support rods. Looks like you've got the nice stainless versions that come with the rod, bracket, nuts etc. I found that on mine the shoulder on the carriage head is actually deeper than the bracket is thick. Bottom line is, no matter how much you wrench down on the nut at the bracket end, the rod won't tighten snug. I had to shim the carriage heads to keep them from rattling loose. Mine never popped all the way off, but they'd loosen up in a few miles of rough road.

thanks for the info. I am going to get a closer look after work tonight and will see about shimming them. They never did seem to snug up as tight as I would of liked

Opps... I was under the impression that you just moved here for some odd reason. Don't pay attention to me, I don't even know what day of the week it is half the time.

Shoot me an email when you're driving out to a show.
