I know there have been threads on this before, but for some reason I cant find them in the search. I am getting ready to do the interior on my 51 Chevy and I figure I should spray my dash before any of the soft parts go in. I want to do a silver metal flake. I am looking for a supplier that I can go to in Orange County Ca. I will need everything from the gun to the paint. Does anybody know a good supply shop around here? I really don't want to buy it online. Thanks!!
Coast airbrush in anaheim has tons of flake to choose from....ol shool flake is way cheaper than HOK..good luck.
There is a list of dealers here: http://www.rothmetalflake.com/ Just don't try the cheap Craft Store "Glitter". It will melt in the clear,so you don't get the right effect.
Yep, Lil Daddy Roth Flakes are a great way to go.....try AB Supply in Fremont....ask for Steve Tamer.....online ordering is not an issue-AB is top notch.... "Acid Trip" gives an outstanding silver flake result, but he will have a trad silver if you want it also... AB Supply...510.706.3200 as well as the site posted above for examples.....
i am looking for some of you who have experience spraying heavy metal flake paint.. i have alot of painting experience.. but i have some heavy flake to lay..and i am looking for professional pointers to get it down correctly with as little error as possible. what size tip do you guys use?\ fwiw its red flake over black base and over some red base. its large (b*** boat) style flake. i was gonna try shooting it through some clear with slightly more reducer than normal....? but i am looking for some suggestions. it will be pretty heavy coverage.. also looking for some suggestions on clearing over it.. its panels so its area is relative to getting it even...on both sides. not sure if i should do multiple coats to get the amount of flake i am looking for..? or if i should use more media and less p***es..i am trying to keep my mill as thin as possible...relative to it being metal flake. gimme some pointers.. thanks cheapst.
When I spray flake in clear, I leave it un-reduced so the flake will stay suspended in the clear better.... Here's some pics of a golf-cart I had the students in High School flake, I'm not sure how well the pics will come out. This is: A Silver base, Clear with Green transparent tint, large SEM Green flake, 9 coats of Clear.
