My whole life since I've been fabricating I've always loved Funny Car Zoomies. I was always in awe of how they seemed to make the engine look larger than it actually was. Sure, they are simple in design. But we've all seen sets that went horribly wrong somewhere in the building. Uneven pipes, tips that weren't in the same plane, etc. I've always wanted to build a set, but the cars I've built never spoke to me that the Funny Car Zoomies were the right ones. That is, until I sat down and stared at the blown 392 in Helen Wheels (which is currently undergoing a re-naming per the new owner). In my head, I could see nothing else. The 8 Stromberg 48's, 8-71 Mooneyham all perched majestically on the already massive 392 Chrysler just screamed for a set. I chose 2" tubing, with a 3" radius 90 degree bend at the end and a 6" leg. In my humble opinion, perfection. Like Rocco commented to me, "those aren't simple. They're all BUSINESS." Enjoy:
I know I'm asking for a brow beating, but.... Did you install baffles in the tubes prior to final fabrication? I know a motorcycle exhaust unbaffled can get really annoying really fast! I love a good-sounding V8 as much as the next guy (or the next HAMB-guy), but you can have too much of a good thing when on a 2+hour road trip.
very cool..always loved the zoomies would like to see what a set would look like on a full fender A sedan. peaking out from under the front fenders, and showing a little because the hood sides are off..mmm?
Larry, you slay me. Yep, each tube has 12" motorcycle baffles inside. The tubes are actually two tubes grafted together with the baffle inside. The noise this thing will make exiting through almost straight tubing is going to be plenty, so we decided to include the baffle. Trust me, it'll be plenty loud. Anyone that's heard BSB knows what open headers sounds like, and they at least have turns to cut the noise a little.
I think they're cool too and would run them if I had a car that fit them. Curb feelers...I almost went past this thread cuz I hated those things. Thought they were for people who couldn't drive. Very nice.
what type of bike are they from cause were building a t bucket with the same headers and were wondering about baffles
They're from one of our suppliers. 12" for 2" tubing. I don't know what brand they are. Generic as far as I know. They came in a plastic sleeve with a Midwest Motorcycle sticker on them. I could get you some and ship them to you.
Sometimes simple is the hardest thing to pull off and make look right. You nailed it, looks good from every angle. GV
Excellent Zoomies, my compliments. Another source for baffles, Drag Specialties, basically any Harley aftermarket co., will have what you want.
The guy in the next lane, on the cell phone, rollin' up his window, is going to be VERY annoyed........ Those remind me of CARtoons.....and Trosley.
Not yet. Before they go to get ceramic coated they will. Thanks for the words guys. And I'm dating someone, sorry.
