Ya I know..... Why would I lift a Galaxie.. I am going for the factory lightweight look.. Anyway I was thinking of just flipping the factory shackles. I think I can get a couple inches of height at the axle that way.. Anybody done it??

you shouldn't have to lift it??? They weren't "lifted" back then. Just HD springs

Add a leaf or get your leafs re-arched? Or you could "flip" it to the bottom of the springs and put on new spring pads, they are $10 at summit.

I am trying to keep from increasing the spring rate. I plan on using Cal-Tracs, so I want the softer spring for weight transfer.... I could have the spring re-arched though.... I'm pretty sure th Cal-tracs won't work with a spring over conversion.

    Thanks.

  5. Yes, we used to flip the factory shackles all the time. In fact, you can do it without unbolting them. Just jack the car up to unload the springs, slide a crow or pry-bar in between the thru bolts and twist them around. Although as was mentioned, the *** ends were never raised on Stock or Super Stockers

  6. Flipping the shackles was a common low buck solution in that time period. aprobably done more in highschool parking lots than on the strip. When the springs still had some life in 'em it was good for an inch or two.

But as has been mentioned an extra leaf or a slight rearch is probably your better solution. Fact is that it is probably sagging from stock ride height anyway.

Then just slip a spacer under the coil (say between 1/2" and 3/4") on the front to bring the front up to match. That should give you the F/X look or pretty close to it.

Steelies are a must at least on the rear and don't forget to paint wedges on 'em.

Ya, I guess the original springs are a little tired (90,000 miles). It sure drags *** right now.. I'll check into re-arching them and go from there..
    Thanks!
