Saw this at the Barris Show The Owner say's the guy he got it from told him it was built in the 50s and was orginally Candy Green anyone have more pix or info
That's my question anyone have pix of it when it was Candy Green or any info this before the orange and white it is now
That car looks aweful familiar! I think it was in a post recently in original guise with a story about Winfield. He built his then one thats almost a clone for someone else? Either way its SUPER nice, I love the taillights what are they?
Pix weren't showing up last night! Nice looking car. Check out Ricksters site & see if there's anything there. </fang>
For Sale again ??? I saw it last weekend in Culver City and yes the current owner lives in Canada diden't say anything about flipping it Gee that's fast if I could afford it I'd keep it as a Daily Driver
If Gene did it you can bet he has photos somewhere. That car does look very familiar from way back when in the little books though.
It was on Ebay about 6 weeks ago. I looked at the auction multiple times cause I would love to have a Merc of that vintage. It went way north of my price range. The high bid was something like 19k and hadn't met the reserve yet.
Hi guys: This Merc now belongs to me. Yes, it is for sale--but only because I now have too many cars, so all are for sale and whatever goes first... I have a 40 Ford Coupe, 51 Chevy Hardtop, 52 Merc Hardtop (the car in question) and 53 Ford 2-dr sedan. I would rather not sell the Merc at this point but like I say, I'm using sort of a 'shotgun' approach to see what happens. Just finished front end work on the Merc--control arm bushings, sway bar links, new brake pads, rewired the headlight system etc and am working towards getting it so it can p*** a safety inspection. Horn, wipers, front turn signals, park brake all need to be fixed/installed as well as a new door solenoid system with key fob remote and so forth. Once I can get it inspected and properly registered here in British Columbia (it has already obviously been officially Exported from the US and Imported into Canada, with the GST paid and so forth) then I can work on some of other issues, such as reupholstering the front seat bottom, rear package tray, mounting the stereo and speakers properly and so forth. The car has a killer look to it and was tastefully done, in my opinion, very mild but distinctive--and the colors are great in the sun. So, if anyone is looking for a high-end 40 Ford coupe (black with flames), a moderately priced 51 Chevy hardtop, or a 53 Ford with zero miles since conversion from completely stock to built 351W/Lentech AOD/Maverick rear with Auburn posi-3.90 gears, disk brake, aluminum rad car, please let me know...
I haven't tried to post any pics, so here goes some of my 40... Geez, I really had to downsize these and cut back on the quality before they were an acceptable file size...
I believe the rear bumper is stock. On a stock Merc, the taillights used to slope forward on the same angle as the trunk. With the 56 Packard lights they now sweep back with the fender extension. The bumper has MERCURY letters stamped into it at the factory. They aren't visible in the pic but are if you see the car. This old ad poster doesn't show the back well, but you get the idea..
Haven't had it long--picked it up in Phoenix a few days before the Culver City show, drove to L.A., then after the show drove up the coast through California and Oregon and then across to Portland and up I-5 to Vancouver, then took the ferry across to Vancouver Island and home. Got working on it immediately afterwards. Since it hasn't yet been registered in BC, at the moment it still has Arizona ***le. Our daughter is getting married this weekend so am pretty busy right now. Best bet, if you're seriously interested in any of my cars, is to call my cell phone at (250) 734-1718. Thanks.
The Merc now belongs to a fellow in Calgary, Alberta. He's been doing a bunch of detail things to it in preparation for the World of Wheels in the Spring. Sounds like it's coming along nicely...
I am the new owner and if I could get any pictures that would be great as I would like to build a history board if I could. Once it is back together I will post some more pictures
