He guys. I have a stupid question, I need to know if there is any type of bump stop for the front end when using an air bag. I know I need one in the back but do you run one in the front. What do you think of the wheels? I still have the white walls. thanks

that would be the wrong answer.

the correct answer: it depends on the bags you are using. see if your bags have a "built in" bumpstop. many are not meant to be run fully compressed. in actuality, i would run a bumpstop regardless of the bags chosen.

  6. Are you using Slam Specialties 'bags? If so, they have the aforementioned internal bumpstop. If you are using Firestone 2600s or AIM 'bags you need to either make sure that the 'bag does not bottom out on itself when you lay out or use a bumpstop.

Some people use a "L bracket" off the top bucket, this when you lower the car the "L bracket" will come down and lay on the control arm. I'll see if I can find a pic. Brian

did you cut the factory bumpstop pad off the suspension crossmember to make room for the bags? if so, pics would help to see how you have it packaged to determine a good solution. on my chevy i used the stock bumpstop locations, with the short urethane bumpstops.

The wheels look like what your grandad would look like wearing a thong.

dont like em either, but i generally dont like any aluminum rims, and its not my car, so my opinion is useless. do you like em? thats all that really matters.

Build the car the way you like it. If you like the wheels than who cares what everyone else wants. Build off what they say and your building their car, not yours

i shoulda paid attention to the first pics, i thought you still had stock suspension.

i guess i'd hang a bracket off the side of the coil bucket and/or frame and one on the a arm, but i wouldn't like it. i can't recall seeing m2 suspensions with airbags and bumpstops. everybody must just live with the bag abuse or run SS bags.

fat lot of help i am, huh?

  19. Well, by the looks of it, you don't really have any options for something strong.

If I were in your situation I would run the Slam Specialties 'bags.

The bumpstop location will put it in a very strong spot, and they're convex, so the angles will not matter so much.

Or you could chance it without them. My $.02

BEER102, I've found that not everyone likes everything of everyone else's. If we did, it would be a pretty friggin boring place.
Doing stuff different and out of the ordinary...

is what makes us all different. It's also the very thing that gives us all ideas at car shows by looking
    [IMG]
at other people's rides, ideas and experiments. You build your car the way you want and to hell with what anyone thinks, good or bad. I never understood why some people would diss a gorgeous set of expensive rims by sayin they ****, unless they're just envious that you got the funds to get them and they dont.
They probably run steelies on their car just cuz "Well that's what's kool and everyone does", completely forgetting that it comes from building your ride out of spare parts laying around the garage or stuff you got from your buddies because youre friggin broke but still wanna haul some ***. If I had listened to everyone else, I wouldve never built an undefeated Vega in south Texas in the 80's. I woulda probably been sittin around worrying if my cuffs were big enough or if my ducktail had the correct amount of goo in it.
Individuality and doin what you want is supposedly the credo of hotrodders, though you wouldn't know it by reading some comments on here.
Guess they prefer being a sheep.
I dont speak sheep, do you?
    Yeah.....no.

If any chainers or PBR lovers have a gripe, I could give a sh*t.
Go whine about it at your trendy tattoo shop.

Or in this case, because they asked. If they hadn't asked, I wouldn't have stated an opinion.

If one asks for opinions, that's what you get.

Really i think the bling rims and the 24" DUBs.(or what ever size).just dont have a place on a Traditional ride or Custom..
If your building a street rod, well than thats different.
There are street rod sites...go check em out.

    nice frame anyways

We're just bustin your chops over the wheels, I'm sure you've got some $$$ in them, which could have been invested elsewhere in the car. Looks like you've got a clean start and, yes, I personally think it would look much better with some steelies (maybe rings and spider caps) and pie crust whites.

Adjustable-spoke Kelseys are expensive, I don't have the funds for a set, but they dont ****. Those dubzzz **** like Libarace on Valentine's day in Hell.

P.s. If you need the bump stops, get them from Brickster, $11 shipped. I just got 5 sets for $35.

I can't see the lower mount very well, but check El Polacko's post about reinforcing mII based suspensions. The lower arm looks like it may be hanging out in the breeze :eek:and under alot of force with no support.

and the wheels could look good on a non period show car, just don't swap them before going to a FUN show. :D

Hey man...thanks for the comments. I like those wheels I also like the white walls and steelys, but this car is headed towards a hot rod and not the sled like origanly planned...as far as the bags. thanks for the idea about slam specialties, i will get a set of theirs with the internal bump stop.
Wvenfield....the thong comment is fricken funny. I didnt know grampa was still in west virgina.:D
I havent put a car together in 15 years and I new this build wasnt as traditional as some of you guys like but thats what I want to build and I intend to drive the rubber off this *****. I have a few friends with big dough show cars and thats not my idea of fun. They havent twisted a wrench on anything. Just write the checks. I will do everything myself and what I dont know I will probably find on this web site. Thanks
If your in Simi Valley and you want to come by and shot the ****. the fridge is allways full of beer and HAMBers are welcome.
