I want to replace a Q-jet with an edelbrock performer. Is the 2696 adapter plate worth using or should I bite the bullet and but the edelbrock manifold? It's going on a '71 350 stock except for a mild cam.
Guess it depends on your original manifold and how fugly it is.. If youre already considering the upgrade to an edelbrock manifold, do it. Its definately an upgrade that wont be a mistake.
The one I was gonna run is a factory aluminum job which I smoothed out to improve the looks. Thought it would be OK but now I have aquired the edelbrock carb and it won't fit unless I use the adapter. My main question is how the performer manifold compares with the factory manifold/adapter plate set-up. Best prices I've found are $35 for the adapter, $127 for the performer manifold. I'm wondering if the $127 would be money well spent.
Going from a Q-Jet to a Performer you'll be fine as far as air flow, going the other way, Q-Jet to square bore, is where you run into flow issues. Unless your Q-Jet is worn out or you want the vintage AFB/AVS look I have to ask why you would want to swap it for a Performer? If set up properly the Q-Jet is the next best thing to fuel injection for the street. Yeah, they can be a PIA to get dialed in but once you've had one that is tuned properly you'll never want anything else.
