I got some more progress. I got the plate built today and about 80% of the porting/smoothing of the intake. I have been using an old single speed craftsman diegrinder that is just too fast. Tomorrow I will brake out my Foredom. I also smoothed the ends out on the bottom of the spacer. I will still need to use spacers for throttle linkage clearance. I'll probably try to find something less cluttered than these coolant spacers but if I have to have carb heat I can always put them on. I plan to tie the 2 big vacuum ports together, maybe that will smooth out the signal between the 2 halves of the intake.

This thing looks pretty neat and home built is always better.

Yeah, about an 89 crown vic. I had a machinist take it down about 1 1/2 inch inside to make a plenum area. I'll be running a pair of .98 1963 vintage 260 carbs and the setup is going on a 260 in my rpu.

Well, they say neccessity is the mother of invention. I think hotrods need more than one carb and all you can really find is 2 fours for the diminuative Ford, which would be overkill on a 260. I think they might have started making 3x2s again but they are still pretty pricey for my budget. FWIW, I will probably have around $100 and my time plus a few traded favors with my machinist.
I have always thought the autolite 2 bbl were a good carb and I always wondered why nobody used them in multiples. Now we will see. I will just kit the carbs and try them before I start fiddling but I plan to change the power valves if I need to.
I am converting both carbs to manual chokes useing some parts from 60s pickup carbs and some fabricarion.
If this all works out, I am going to have a thicker adapter machined out with built in spacers. And have it cleaned up to look decent.
I also need to plug off the injector holes and clean up that area of the manifold.
I am also thinking of a threaded screw through the top of the carbs to adjust the float level externally.
    open to suggestions.

Thats looking mighty interesting. You can use a cheep router speed controller on your grinder for better control. I got mine from Harbor Freight and use it with die grinders, sanders or just whenever I need slower speeds for more control.

I'm wondering if you will have a problem with the float bowls being positioned on the side of the intake rather than front to back?

After all these years, I finally got it on the road (almost) I am very pleased to say the set up works great. It is just a tad rich smelling when I crack the throttle but very snappy. I have the squirter linkage in the second hole from the bottom on the lever, might drop it on down. I would also like to fiddle with leaner power valves. Anyway, the 260 is other wise stock except for the open exhaust. That little 260 has a lot more bark than I expected, not much trouble getting loose in a corner when I nudged it, about 25 mph in second gear.
I didn't get to drive it a lot, maybe 45 in third was about all. A few quick blasts and put it away before the cops come.
I'll be putting up some currant photos of the whole car today or tomorrow, still need to finish a couple things.

I forgot to add this. The later 302 intake coolant p***ages need welded up a little as they hung over the ends of the earlier heads

Hey willowbilly3 - I'm looking forward to seeing some more pics on this - it's a great idea and I hope it works great for you.

    Cheers.

Since I don't have it licensed yet I have only done a few quick blasts around the neighborhood, top of third is as far as it's gotten. The throttle response is great, it starts real easy, only on those 40 degree mornings does it need a little choke. Idles smooth. I know it is a bit rich off the bottom, not that I notice it driving but if I blip the throttle a couple times setting still you can see just a hint of black smoke at the pipes.. I have one more hole leaner I can go on the accelerator pumps. I would like to find out for sure if Holley power valves work, I have heard they do and have heard they don't. I'm sure I could dial them in a little better.
If I did it over again I would probably just eliminate the chokes. It was quite a bit of fiddling around to convert all the parts from manual choke 2100s
Here's a shot of it on the car, don't mind the messy wiring, I have that all tidied up now. Also those old spacers will get replaced when I find some better ones.
