Hey all... just wanted to post my quick intro... name's Ryan, live in Scottsdale AZ, 24 years old, working on a 1964 Impala Wagon to get it to daily driver status... have a 1964 Conti that I got really cheap in the backyard that I keep goin' back and forth on whether to sell or fix and keep... my little bro is on the board, SIXOCAD, and his first car, a 1960 Coupe DeVille is also in the backyard... both he and I are huge car nuts but never had a Dad or Gramps to learn from, so we're learning as we go - if you saw the "My Brother's Car" from the beginning of this week thread it shows my Impala before and after we put Jamco's 3" springs on it... we had absolutely no idea what we were doing and it took us forever, but we did it ourselves in my carport, dammit!! So I guess that's it... love the board, have been lurkin' for quite a while... now I'm official!! Where's my gold star?
Well, no gold star, but you are welcomed into the brotherhood. You have a good at***ude, and a couple of nice rides. Enjoy the mayhem.......
welcome.. sounds like your in the same boat as me. No one in my family was into cars not my dad or Gramps.. So basically had to learn on my own, and friends. Long roofs rule...lets see pics...
ryan, what up dude?????? welcome man.......lots o good info on here mixed in a**** the ******** and drama . congrats on the al***ude adjustment..looks cool.....lets flake that top . ........hope ya stick around the place for while............
Gold Star? if it was up your a88 Whoops that wasn't nice. Nice intro! sounds like you and your brother are members in good standing. My first car was a 41 chev coupe. it was only 16 years old at the time. and I was 15. 47 years later and I'm working on a 48 ford. so you starting with a 40 year old car is even more impressive. hope that you are stuck here for life. there are far worse hobbies that you could have. nice meeting you here and if you have any gl*** questions or anything else I can do. Just ask Jim
Thanks for the welcomes... it seems that if you do have a good at***ude on this board there's a whole bunch of knowledge to be shared... And re: pics, I don't have any on my work computer here and no internet access at home... but follow this link: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB1&Number=442982&Forum=All_Forums&Words=&Match=Entire%20Phrase&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=1week&Main=442982&Search=true#Post442982
Welcome fellow FNG and wagon driver. I have a '64 Valiant wagon that I am building with my 19 yr old son David. I just painted it last weekend. I call her Aunt Betty 'cuz when we first got it people were saying that it looked like an old lady's car. Well...it was. It belonged to my wife's Great Aunt Betty. She was the original owner but it was not well taken care of. Five years later she is looking pretty good for an old gal. It does have a flaked roof (like lownslow was urging you to do). Your roof is way longer than mine is so better get three jars of flake. The closer we get to finishing her, the more I like her. Wagons are way cool. Good to see you are on the right track. We gotta lower ours now. You think JAMCO makes a kit for Valiants? Time to check it out. Later... Michael
Hey Donnie... well, as soon as you give me a price doing silver flake (like on the Olds) for the Impala I'll start working on saving the coin... but you'll have to quote me off of the board because I know you'll give me the "lives-in-my-hometown-been-to-two-car-shows-with-him" price Seriously though, lemme know what you think as far as price for silverflake and we'll go from there... Ryan
Sweet on the Valiant, Michael... thanks for the wagon props... I've considered at times how cool it'd be to have a full stable of wagons, from cl***ics through moderns... there's just something about the back end of a wagon sittin' low that a car with a trunk just can't achieve... what color is your flake? What color didja paint her??
Hey there longroof, excellent introduction, I believe youre safe from extermination by the intro. police. When are we fixing the car, huh, huh?
You seem to be partial to silver flake. Guess what?! The roof is silver flake. I flaked the roof first with HOK standard flake and then sanded it smooth. Then I painted the rest of the car silver with some silver micro flake and HOK standard size silver flake lightly spread about the jambs, under the hood and the body. That gives a nice random sparkle to the car under street lights and in sunlight . Then I put candy red scallops on all of the major body panels: hood, roof, tailgate and the sides. There is a panel within the scollops that I did with red candy and cellphane and eighth tape. Then I clear coated the entire thing and this week end I start the arduous task of color sanding with 1500 grit paper. Can you say "elbow grease"? I took some in-process pictures and ran out of film. When I get some over all pictures, I'm gonna post them. Michael
Wow... sounds like a LOT of work... mechanicals I can dabble in, I'd even maybe be willing to try some bodywork, but I KNOW paint is wayyyyyy outta my realm... that's why I just need to keep hitting up Donnie... I'd really like to see pics when you get 'em up... PS Donnie - I saw Jen's new car... schweet!!
Let's see...... lot's of info, long roof, good at***ude, no VW talk! Welcome to the HAMB!! I realy like them long roof's.
Yeah. You shoulda seen what happened to a guy a couple a days ago. He had a VW and Willys jeep. Ever seen anyone tore up by an Apachie gunship? Sure glad I'm a kustoms guy.
How long it takes you to do it only counts in NASCAR. Around here its doin' it that counts. You'll learn in time, get good then when your bones start creakin' you'll be back to the forever stage. Welcome young buck, The PKnBner
Are you and Nate still planning on hitting up Pavillions tomorrow night? I've got his cell phone number so expect a call. BE THERE!
ahhhhhhhhhhh pavilillions.......those were the days......i miss that cruise nite.........i will be there in spirit boys......when i come home sometime i will have to go back there........
[ QUOTE ] Yeah. You shoulda seen what happened to a guy a couple a days ago. Ever seen anyone tore up by an Apachie gunship? [/ QUOTE ] I love that gunship line. LMAO Aw hell you should have seen what we did to Large. Makes the VW guy look tame. LOL Oh and welcome longroof, that IS a nice ride height on your car. And you guys did a good job on it, especially with not hurting yourselves. My friend and former business partner nearly lost a hand in a 'spring accident' and we were freakin' mechanics! LOL
longroof64, Here is an attempt to show some pictures of last weekend's results. This is pre-clearcoat however as my roll was 24 exposure not 36...time for digital!
Sweetness on those wheels wideglide74 . Astro Supremes? That is what we wanted for our wagon but didn't want to convert to a different bolt pattern. Nor did we want adapters. Current bolt pattern is 5 on 4 due to the previous 13 inch wheels. Michael
