I am using a spirit track "T" nose and need to find a way to mount it. Pictures would be helpfull. Fred
Don't have any pics handy, but what I did on my '26 track roadster pickup was to form a hoop out of 1/8X1" mild steel flat stock. The hoop followed the inside shape of the nose and had brackets at the bottom to allow bolting to the frame. Also had a half dozen or so brackets that had threaded holes for 10-32 screws to go through the nose and attach it to the hoop. My nose has a step in at the rear. Also attached the radiator to the hoop. Then a pair of 1/2X1" aluminum bars that define the hood side panel upper attached to the cowl and the hoop. Dzus faster brackets also attach to the alum bar and the frame rails, etc. All of the components piggyback each other so to speak. Made a very strong ***embly. I also made a louvered scoop that attaches in front of the bottom of the radiator that angles down to bottom feed some more air for cooling which also has a pair of brackets that attach to the bottom edge of the nose. When I go in from watching the NHRA qualifying tonight I'll hunt up a couple shots. Charlie
I had a radiator made at a local shop after I defined how much space I had available. Made a template out of a piece of plywood and drew the rough upper and lower tank size on it with a sharpie and turned it over to the radiator guy. Turned out fine. Charlie
i , like charlie , made a hoop ...but used dzus fasteners on mine....for those interesting driveways and such....as for radiator...i had prc make me up a little "heater core" for my 4 banger.....a little hard to see in the pic.... brandon
Here's a few pictures that pretty much show what I did. If you have any specific questions please fire away. Charlie
charlie, what kind of nose did you use? who sells it? that bulge out at the bottom looks like it allows the frame to be wider and still covered by the nose. thanks Bill
Charlie, that mounting hoop is just like the one we did on our race car, only ours was made out of tubing and bolts to the frame. Great minds think alike. Ha Ha.--TV
I used some 3/4" O.D. round tubing that bolts on with three tabs. There are 4 Dzus tabs that hold the nose to the nose frame. By the way, the same frame also holds the radiator and catch can.
The nose and grille on mine is from Superior Gl*** in Oregon. I had to narrow it about 1-1/2 inches to fit the width of my frame. Funny thing was I called them to order it and asked how wide it was, and then built the frame to that width. So when it arrives it's too wide. The narrowing wasn't hard but refitting the grille ****ed up a lot of time. I don't understand how they could measure that far off. I let it go as far as whining - wouldn't have done any good. I always like that style of nose. Charlie
Can't get a measurement on the car. My notes say the frame is 21-1/2" at the front cross member. The inside of the nose clears by about 1/4" each side. The notation I put in the Superior catalog said 23" o/s+....whatever that meant...hard to remember now. Maybe it was actually 23" inside. Did all that 7 or 8 years ago. The engine is a '69 Chevy II, 153 bored .060, 10:1 Arias forged pistons, a Sig Erson cam, a pair of DCOE-45 side draft webers, B/W T-50 5 speed and an S-10 2wd rear axle. Charlie
Thanks. Just got a mag with a pic of it in there, Street Rodder I think (Big Olds was in there too) looks good.
