Hey all,,, I just found this in the HAMB drags forum. My guess is he's posting from a PDA type phone... ANyone know where Barstow is?
Barstow California... Broke down on his way to Santa Maria. Anyone around there have a balancer puller, a place to work and be able to lend a hand?
Killer lives in Hesperia, which is the the closest to him that I know (i don't have his number) or maybe Ray "Desertratrodder". That is still 40 miles or so.
I damn sure don't envy you. I dropped an engine in my Kenworth about 5 or 6 years ago and spent 8 days stranded in a flea-bag motel in Barstow. Man that place is in the middle of nowhere....Ole Pork
barstow, is between vegas and the rest of cali, ****ty place to break down, im about 2 and a 1/2 hours away,
Leon is in Ridgecrest 82 miles away and is retired with a large shop and lots of tools. Is it too early to call Finkd with his phone number?
I woke him up He's got Leon's number now and hopefully Leon has the puller he needs or can get it. Leon's a great guy and will do whatever it takes to help out.
I called him when I first posted. Forgot about the two hour time difference. I woke him up too.... he's gonna be grumpy today!
This is the sign you see when you pull up on Interstate 40 ... in Barstow California ... I spent the night there a couple of times on the way to the LA Roadsters show. It is a weird place. Almost no one around in the daylight but at night ... the roads and places are full of folks. Barstow has a NAPA store ... on West Main St. Phone # 760-256-6841 ... and a AutoZone on East Main St . Phone # 760-256-0629 and they had a tool loaner program They also have a Kragens close to the AutoZone store ...
Sent a note to a Barstow Guy. He is on the P15 D 24 board, and is a photog for hot rod hotline. Has a lift and nice big shop at his home. Perhaps he can help. Name is Dennis Good luck.
I've seen that very sign twice in the last four years -- on my way from Los Angeles to Columbus Ohio. Once with my 34 five window in the trailer . . . and the second time with my 40 Merc in the trailer. Cost me about $650 is gas (one way) and that was with gas around $2.00! Thank God I took those trips back then!
I broke down 30 miles out of barstow a few years ago, and that is not the greatest place to break down. The local tow yard let me use their gargae after they towed me into Barstow late one night. I am a few hours away, but let me know if I can help out. i am going to try calling the number now.
any updates on the repair! breaking down is a bummer but having fellow hambers doing AAA's job rocks!
I don't either. Back in '79 I broke down there in a brand new helicopter. It took the better part of two days for someone from Hughes Helicopters to get there. I have never been as cold in my life as I was out on that ramp in the middle of the night. Don't have good memories of Barstow, none!
Hunter S. Thompson had stories for days about Barstow... He said it was a town full of nothing but degenerates and swine that would kill small children or cats just for another hit of meth manufactured with cough syrup. Finkd should fit right in!!! Someone fill us in on his shape...
Real ****ty place to break down. Half between the Army's National Training Center for Desert Warfare and the Marine Corps 29 Palms Desert training center. However, it does have the world largest McDonalds.....LOL, if that helps
I was ridin' my motorcycle from FL to CA and I spent the night in Kingman Az. A Harley guy told me I'd better be across that desert on I-40 my 10:00 am. I got up at 2:00 am and hit the road. I pulled into Barstow at 8:30 and got on through it headed for Bakersfield. Brought back the helicopter memories. Glad to have got through that rat hole ...
