I insist that if you buy that boat, you take me out in it for being the first person to slap you upside the head and rid you of the notion of pulling the Hemi out to put in some shitty model A :)

OK, OK..............just got back from looking at the boat again and have a couple of questions
    for you Hemi guys.
    It is a 392 block........block number is 5N2 998
BASS was correct, the heads are what he described as "high flow" 331.............why.........is this because they are smaller and have smaller chambers/exhaust/intake ports and easier to run....................????????
The motor is 58, .030 over with J.E. slugs, Isky Mega-Cam and 2.0 SS intakes and 1.85 SS exhausts
It has been balanced and printed and crank is .010/.010.

    Thanks for the information

    Oh.........................money has changed hands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Good for you!
The things we regret are not what we bought, but what we didn't buy.

    Chris,

No, it will seat 4............all facing forward (so everyone can enjoy that 70+mph wind in your face feeling). The upholstry is totally new with marine grade plywood and marine grade vinyl.
Still looking for someone that can tell me why they switched the 392 heads for the 331 heads.............anyone.

That boat has four damned nice seats in it. It looks like one of the nicer boats from that era and well kept.

As far as the paint I think it is pretty close to period correct for the boat.
In the Mid 60s I rode at 80 mph in a similar but not as nice one and was scared sober by the time we got across the lake.

  16. That is one damn nice boat and trailer for $10K. It would sure be a shame to take it apart just for the engine. Even if I didn't want the boat . . . I'd try to get it to somebody who does and will keep and run it like it is. Hate to see it parted out . . .

  18. AGREED 100%. That thing is way too clean and cool to part.

OK go back & fire it up in the garage & see if that does it for you!

  20. The reason is that the 'triple 5' 331 heads and 354 heads had straighter intake ports and were reported to flow better than the later 392 heads. Also, the chambers were typically a bit smaller (I haven't measured them myself, but heard as much). This was a very popular setup back in the day. Personally, I have to wonder if an alternate reason was that guys had good ported/polished sets of 331/354 heads from their earlier motors when the 92' came out - and wanted to run them. Some say that there really isn't much real difference in running the 392 heads versus the early ones.

That boat is beautiful! Somebody has spent a LOT of money in the restoration, building and upkeep of that boat . . . would be a damn shame to take it apart! I'd enjoy the heck out of it and NOT take it apart - it is a time capsule from the good ole' flatbottom v-drive days.

It won't get parted out. I took my friend and neighbor with me when we looked at the boat and Glen made me promise to leave it the way it is. Just talked to Bob Walker at Hot Heads about the reason behind the 331 heads...................so life is good! Now I just have to get up the nerve to put it in the water and start it up..........................the last time I went really fast on water was in Tom Boxler's SOHC 427 Ford powered boat in the 60's.................scared me really bad............................besides, it may look nice being towed behind the Coupe.
