Vintage radio repair

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by jakespeed63, May 24, 2008.

  1. Just picked up an early 60's Rocket AM/FM Wonderbar radio, for the '64 starfire ragtop project. Gotit on e-gay cheap, cause it is missing some parts. Did a search on the HAMB vendors section, no results.

Anyone know of person or company that fixes these old radios?

    under "services offered"..take your pick...

One thing you may want to consider is having it upgraded to a stereo and even a CD player. Several guys can upgrade an old radio. I usually see them at flea markets and don't have a web site for you. You might be able to come up with some great tunes with not much more than a standard rebuild. It's just something to consider.

I am looking into that too, I want to have my 67 Olds radio done
    I found these two:
first guy seems a little "odd" but might be very good : http://www.wonderbarman.com/
and the second one does add a aux input so you can connect a ipod or XM tuner. http://www.vintageautoradio.com/
I think i'm going to do the conversion w/ ipod
    Anybody actually used them ?

I do ALOT of wonderbar radios. You said its missing parts- Do you know what or have pictures.

You wanted it repaired, upgraded or looking for info to fix it yourself? Let me know how I can help- I own www.joesclassiccarradio.com
We do restorations, add AUX iputs to stock radios and digital conversions. Let me know if I can help.

And for anyone wondering about the pictured radio- its a 1968 Mustang radio with ALPINE internals. All functions can be controlled by the pushbuttons and knobs/backrings or by the remote. Ipod ready and HD/SAT/Bluetooth compatible.

Link works for me. Joe, I think I've sold you some radios on eBay. Your work looks good.

I'm always just a little worried about sending a radio by mail in case it gets lost or never comes back. Some of these AM/FM factory units are extremely valueable.

I know I have a '64 Pontiac full size AM/FM for my '64 Olds (same radio, just says "Pontiac" on the slider bar, I've got an AM/FM from a '64 300K and an AM/FM/8-track for my GTO. Knowing how difficult it would be to find replacements, I'd like to walk it in to someone local.

Maybe it's just me and I'm being paranoid.
