Can some one show me a picture of a straight chevy straight six pressure plate. I got a new cluthh a used pressure plate with a T-5 i picked up from a v8 camaro. i'm looking at the flywheel on the chevy 250ci and it has three holes drilled out on it. do i have something wrong. Where can i get a pressure plate for the inline. been googleing and ebaying for a pressure plate but no luck.. Thanks guys
The pressure plate for the 250 is the same as any v8. I run a long style ( for a Big block) and a 6 finger disk on mine Because a diaphragm and normal disk would not hold up. Mind you my L6 is far from stock.
I think the 3 holes you are looking at are balance holes. There should be 6 holes evenly spaced in pairs or evenly spaced to bolt the pressure plate to the flywheel. about an inch off the machined contact surface of the flywheel. You do have a standard shift flywheel and not a flex plate for an automatic? Your flywheel should look something like the one at the bottom left of this photo. Show us a photo of what you have if you can. I ran a diaphragm pressure plate like the one in the photo above behind the stock 74 250 in my 48 without problems but I don't have the power that Twisted 6 has.
Now that you mention it , I think its a flex plate. This free engine probably came from an automatic skylark. I am going to need to find a used flywheel then. if i find a flywheel like in the picture will it just bolt up to my crank. I' m probably going to have to set the endplay to with new shims right. What years are compatable? will a v8 flywheel bolt up? Thanks guys
Any flywheel that is a two peice rear main. the newer one peice has a smaller crank dia. The bolt patteren is the same But the crank center hole is smaller. If i remember right. And you want the 153 tooth I will look I may???? still have a few STD stock flywheels.
hey, check with a parts store or 2. sometimes you can get a "rebuilt" flywheel from them. already surfaceed, good ring gear, etc for about the same (or less)$$$ as finding a used(up) one and having it surfaced...
Just about everybody sells flywheel Check Jegs and them guys.(Hays Ram ) Jegs has a New Hays for like 229.
Try the local salvage yards. '84 and older 153 tooth V8 or L6. It will have a 10 1/2" clutch. Does your tranny have 26 or 14 splines? what is the diameter of your clutch disc?
snarl the clutch disc i have, has a 10.5 diameter and the tranny has a 26 splinecount. the clutch fits. if i went to a junkyard do you think they would have a flywheel off hand or is it something thats most likely going to have to be pull off . so 1984 and old gm engines. Jeep/chevy/buick
Mink: end play, shims ???? ain't no such thing on any American V-8 I;ve ever seen. You must be use to playing with Hilter's revenge VW . End play is taken care of internaly with the crank thrust bearing and no adjustment provided.
Mink, I would think they would take that off for you. Just call around. They did for me. I got a flywheel, clutch and pressure plate from the local yard for $80. It was like new.
Yep . Normal is .004-.009 or so .015 is about max. Either put a dial indicator on things or pull the pan and use feeler gages. Ya got to have some play and just eyeballing it can be deceptive.
I just finished doing this exact same install. I used a 250 from a '68 automatic car. I got an old bell housing from a 4 speed pickup (that used a 10 inch friction plate), used the bell housing, the flywheel, the clutch fork, and starter. Then bolted up the camaro tranny and got a 10.5 inch pressure plate and friction plate for an 86 Camaro and everything bolted up. Since you have a Automatic motor don't forget to install a pilot bushing in the end of the crank. I don't know what mine was for but i took the ID and OD measurements into the local parts store and they had one on the shelf. The only thing that you will have to do different is run the bolts that bolt the bottom 2 tranny mounts from the inside of the bell housing out and nut them on the outside because the pickup bell isn't threaded on the bottom two holes. I think that's it, Let me know if something is unclear.
