    Hey guys

I dont mean any disrespect, especially as I know how you yanks get about your Army :) etc, but I'm just curious why this seems to be the only form of politics that is allowed on the HAMB? We'll run a rat-rodder over the coals within seconds, but when it comes to this, anything goes. No big deal, but this is an international forum and I find it a little curious.

    Hey

Of course it has to do with politics! One persons liberator is another persons slave master! My point is, not everyone around the world has the opinion about your armed forces, which is why we shouldn't be talking about it on a HOT ROD FORUM.

From one former sailor, Thank you to all former and current service members, and ultimately those who sacrificed their lives, out there keeping my family safe and sound. I remember how I felt every time somebody thanked me. It feels really good. On behalf of my family and me we appreciate all you do and know first hand how hard it can be. Be good and stay safe. HooRah!!!

    Alright, everybody just relax...

Memorial Day needn't be political. While it is true that one person's liberator may be another's 'slave master', the troops are, in my opinion, liberators and all around heroes so I'm willing to stand up against anybody who thinks otherwise.

    God bless our troops!

It's called P-A-T-R-I-O-T-I-S-M - you know that thing you do on Australia Day.

I suggest you respect the traditions of other countries and their right to honor (or honour in your case) the people who have either given or put their lives on the line so that others may have their freedom. In this case it is the freedom to hot rod which is being discussed.

If you wish to politicize an honorable thread, which is effectively what you are doing, may I suggest you go elsewhere.

I want to thank ANY veteran ANYWHERE that fought to protect our rights and freedoms .While we always seem to thank our veterans (at least those of us who really care) I think we often forget that "OUR" veterans should include ALL veterans that fought to protect the free world and our way of life!Memorial Day here in the U.S. started shortly after our civil war ended as a time when the families of soldiers killed during that war would clean and decorate the grave sites of these fallen men,So we tend to think of it only locally. With the World wars and "Armed conflicts "that have taken part since that time our veterans are now international !I say this not to degrade in any way the contribution our US veterans have done in keeping us free but to recognize the fact that many countries have also worked to protect us and lost men and woman doing it.So I say to "Our Veterans"a "BIG THANK YOU "As far as politics goes in this case it was also returning veterans that created most of this hobby we call "Hot Rodding"!there wouldn't be "traditional" without them!

If it is politics, its the politics of individual sacrifice, thats the point. Might not be hotrodding, but some things are universal. Nooch, if you have been to the US lateley, you'd know how universal the feeling is

There are a lot of people over there that don't want to be there. I for one am gratefull for their spirit.

  18. I feel I have to apologies on behalf of my country. I am a Veteran and understand what you are saying. My country right now is about as accepting of us Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen as the Vietnam Protesters were all those years ago. It does hurt that I and my mates swore to defend the freedom of all of my countrymen just to be treated like this.
I learned today that a very good mate of mine that served with me, fought in several different conflicts alongside and suffered the strain and trauma of that committed suicide this morning. He was a good and caring soldier but sometimes what we do gets to be too much.
Clive, I'll have a beer for you mate.

Thank you all who support us, to you others.
    GET ****ED.

I am not trying to disrespect anybody, especially not the sacrifices of service people around the world, now or in the past. I, like many, have had family members serve and pay the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

All I am saying is that there are way too many threads that are off topic at the moment and this is one of them. That, coupled with the HUGE US slant that always pervades this forum is starting to get annoying - are we going to post for every Presidents Day and Thanksgiving now too. It was no big deal, I've just seen other people try and post interesting off topic things and get shut down - I want to clarity on the double standard.

Oh yeah, I do celebrate and commiserate ANZAC day (Australia day celebrates when the white people invaded the country and killed all the black people for the uninitiated), but I wouldn't write about it on the HAMB!

  20. I always say a litttle about ANZAC day, you want to stop that too? Go away, you are ******* off people over a subject that shouldnt be ****ed with.

Why shouldn't there be a 'US slant' in a thread like this? It is, after all, a US holiday honoring our veterans as well as those who have fought at our sides.

Nooch, are you really that clueless?

Hot rodding was the result of servicemen coming home from WWII with some money in their pocket, mechanical know-how and a desire to go fast. Those vets set the standard that even to this day we're trying to emulate. So many of our hot rod heroes are/were vets. If you have a hard time understanding respect for the guys who created this thing we all love so much, maybe you're in the wrong spot.

Yesterday I took my buddy (Marine Corps vet) to a Tigers game and bought him a few beers. Today I spent some time with my grandpa (WWII Navy vet.)

i like to see that other people see it the way i do . i work at National Training Center for our US ARMY . I see them when they leave and hear about the ones that dont come back . As i write this my wife is out in the field training the troops at NTC. Before they go over seas .SO MY FAMILY SUPPORTS OUR TROOPS AND WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU. They do what they do so we can do what we do.

As the son of a late AirForce Colonel, who respects and thanks most all of our veterans I say AMEN.

  28. Respect and peace to ALL our Vets...wherever they may be from. To those that have left us, rest in peace.

It is my belief that the world would be a better place if it were populated by people of the ilk of the "Greatest Generation".

    Enough said.
