Ever lost the big headed screw that holds down the points? I have several distributors that lack any hold down hardware... where do you find this stuff?

    Maybe???

The individual links won't work search for binding head and truss head machine screws. Might try a button head socket cap screw they sometimes have a larger head on them.

You can try this site www.kendrick-auto.com They have lots of distributor parts. Click on the engine parts link.

  8. The Lowe's here has a killer hardware section, and I've found large-headed pan-head machine screws like what you need in their drawers, among other useful bits. Also check the electrical isle - there are some specialty electrical fasteners used in household electrical that fit interesting things like GM ignition module screws, etc. If the hardware / home-store places around you don't have it, check your yellow pages for a place like Fastenal, Copper State, etc. If you have something to show them for a sample, they should be able to find it for you. You'd be surprised what you can get at the hardware store, though.

  9. Try one of the screws on the side of an old electrical plug or switch, might just be the right size.

More good ideas... am I the only guy who's ever needed this stuff? I remember my boss at Gene's Enco Service back in '64. He told me I was fired if I lost the screws from inside the distributor!

dont lose em next time dood :p

  12. the first thing i'd do is figure out what size they are...i assume they are small , like 6-32 , 8-32 or even 10-32 or maybe coarse like 10-24. i assume they are also short . maybe 1/2" or 3/8" long? probably panhead

then a trip to the hardware store and check out their fastener section.

  13. Why not go to the wrecking yard and take some from an old dist. ?? I looked in the garage awhile ago for some I removed not long ago. Their with yours now. ????

I get most of my small hardware from the 50¢ to $1.00 piles at swap meets. Pick up 3 or 4 cheap distributors and you're set to go for a long time.

  17. Was at Lowe's last night looking for a screw, so I looked for the large-head dizzy screws - they are under 'drawer pull screws' in the specialty fastener section. :)
