The Deuce Run to Blowing Rock,North Carolina was great,,,, Brenda and I left the house at 6 am and met up with John( non-namber)the only other guy in my area that was going to the meeting place to start the run,,a short 149 miles down the road. The weather was a little damper than was predicted but that never stopped any of us has it? As we took the exit ramp off I-85 Deuce Roadster pulls in between John and myself,,,talk about timing,,,,He and his bride came from Lexington,South Carolina and our now 3 car caravan head up 77 to Cornelius,N.C. John and I toped the tanks and met up with the others,,,
Damn, that looks like fun! Looking at a bunch of Deuce's going down the road beats looking at the scenery in my book any day!
The weather was cool and a light rain started to fall,,,Deuce Roadster had left his top,,,and umbrella at home but my wife remembered we had bought one at the Nats south and it was in the truck of the truck,, We all pulled out and hit the road,,,,the drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway was uneventful,,,but the light rain did quit and the sun broke through the clouds.
The Blue Ridge Parkway has some beautiful brige work,,, And a few Deuces in front doesn't hurt the scenery at all,,, And a few behind ya also,,
We stopped at an overlook to admire the beauty of the Smokey Mountians,,, And of course the 8 deuces that showed up this year,,,way, way down from last year,,,,price of gas, family commitments, too far to drive or whatever,,,we still had a great time.
You have seen my truck and Deuce's Roadster many times so I didn't bother to take photos of them,,,but a samlping of the other cars before the batterys died in the camera,, note to myself,,take extra batterys This car has been around for a long time,,,,and Rhoads was our point man on the run,,, This is a nice old 3 window that has had a lot of recent updates,,including steel fenders, grill shell and puting a soft top back where the top had been filled. . .
I don't remember the guys name but he lives in the Charlotte area and this was his dad's car,,originaly from some place called New Jersy,,, This is a cool car and the man and his wife were super nice,,,,
and the other 2 deuces,,,the cabrolet was driven by a gent that is 81 years old,,,he WAS the only guy there that was older than his Deuce,,,and lastly my friend John's coupe,,,, We left the overlook and had a sort drive up the mountian to Blowing Rock,,and to our destination ,,Canyons Restaurant,,,great food and good people and no at***udes of any kind,,, All in all,,,we drove 423 miles and met some new friends,,got re-aquainted with old ones,,, I am already looking forward to next year,,,,HRP
great pics hrp, i'm gonna try to make that trip this next year, now that my wife is retiring. thanks for the pics, dan
I know it's a long haul for some of you guys that live in other states,,,but they do have a lotta bed and breakfast places, hotels and inns,,,maybe make it and overnight trip. HRP
521 miles for the wife and I ...round trip. Always ... a great time ... even with us getting wet a little The roadster is 76 years old and has been wet before ... so no big deal. The wife and I left out home @ 7 AM ... to meet up above Charlotte @ 10 AM. It started lightly raining around 9:50 AM But it cleared up about 25 miles in to the trip. The run wanders around in North Carolina thru rural settings and beautiful countryside and then we get on the Blue Ridge Parkway. In Blowing Rock we all ate in a nice sports bar type of place overlooking the Blue Ridge mountains. After some hanging around and shooting the breeze in the parking lot ... we went down the mountain ( scenic views galore ) and worked out way back to a cruise night near Hotrodprimers home. A little after 9 PM ... the wife and I headed the 135 miles home ... As Hotrodprimer said ... The run was way down ... 4 dollars plus a gallon fuel, the light rain and some sickness reduced the turnout. We have had 35 Deuces before. We actually had 10 Deuces ... but one roadster went home after it started raining and then HAMBER 3 Deuces ... left to go back home ( family illness ) before the photos. He was in his 32 sedan. Hope you get to feeling better Buster ...
The gentleman in the blue " stoker cap " standing beside my roadster graduated from college in 1949. He worked for the phone company from 1951 to 1991 when he retired. The much younger lady standing in between him and I ... is his " lady friend " He is 81 years YOUNG. He has built two 32 Fords since he retired @ age 64. He and his lady friend came in his Cabriolet. He left his 32 red roadster at home. We shot a few photos also ... but Hotrodprimer has done a super job showing photos of the Deuce Run. He is too modest to show off his super 32 pickup. This truck is KILLER ... and draws a crowd wherever it goes. One of the stops include a stop @ the Grandview Overlook ... a few miles out of Blowing Rock NC. Hotrodprimer, Mrs Hotrodprimer and a few non Hambers Following a few Deuces ... thru the scenic hills of NC ... The wife and I had a great time ... Great views, great people and some nice Deuces ... what else could a gear head want ??? By the way ... all but one of the Deuces on this road trip were Henry Ford issued steel.
Rhoads was the point man, huh? That's funny...my name is Rhoades too! Looks like you guys had a great time,no matter how many guys showed up...
You guys sure know how to torture a person. I've been wanting to come to that run ever since Randy told me about it. When my inlaws were alive and lived in Florida every visit to them included a leisurely drive through that area. Now, with the price of gas I'm wondering if we (the missus and I) will ever make it. Maybe when those hydrogen generators become available. Looks like you had a good time and the weather didn't look that bad. Like Deuce said, any origional '32 has been wet a few times in 75+ years, and I've taken a few baths in 63 years so "no big deal" Frank
Ahhh, I do love going to the mountains. Eveytime I see pics of them I wonder why I moved here and not there. Anyhow, I have to do the Deuce run next......well that is if someone places a Deuce in my hands by next year. Cool pics.
Great photos. Makes me wish I had a Deuce. (Well, come to think of it, I've always wished I had a Deuce!)
No Jay not the mordoor,,,but,,,I remember right a few years ago you were able to squeeze in the orange roadster,,,I'm sure you will fit with room to spare now,,,so maybe a rental can be worked out on that ride! A few more I missed this morning,,, This guy driving this black roadster showed up but when it started to rain he decided to go home,,,his loss,, the light rain stoped about 20 minutes into the ride,,, HRP
My bald spot in the back is really shining ... It was as red as the wheels on my roadster when I got home ...
Thank's Randy,,but you know it's not the truck but the ugly "Fruit Salad" interior that stops them in their tracks! HRP
Great pics guys! Beautiful scenery and beautiful cars. Those two five windows are killer. Sign those guys up on the HAMB!
The price of fuel is going to cut into a lot of events this year. But life is too too short to not experience nice events. I plan to go to York, Columbus and Louisville this year anyway. Too many of my old friends are dying off or having health problems. Think about it, if it cost $100 in gas last year it will be$125 this year, do it anyway and save the buck somewhere else. Ago
