someone once drilled holes in these wheels and put little screws in to keep the hubcaps on, not a bad idea I guess. Car came with 235/75/15's when I bought it, which are a little big. I wanted to try this whitewall grinding thing so I couldnt be picky with sizes, got a used set of 225/70's which is close to the 225/75 which I think matches against a 8x15 the closest. Well I had a hell of a time getting the 225/70 to seal against the screw holes, maybe the used bead was tired? or maybe its slightly smaller? So I put a weld on each hole and sanded down and repainted the wheels to help the seal and that worked. Well sure enough had a hubcab come off the other day and the other one on front is working its way off. Is there a trick to keep them on? dosnt deserve its own post but here's how my grinding turned out, I put the better looking ones on the driver side
i dont know about the cap situation but the tires look good and the car is cool just needs a little lowering...oh but those caps do fit the car nicely
Drill two small holes in the hubcaps and wheels and tie wire the caps to the wheels. They will not fly off. Keven
No prongs to bend out. I've got a baby moon style that I wrap a couple layers of electric tape around.
Pull off the electric tape and run a bead of clear silicone around the edge of the rim where the hubcap interference fits, then slap the cap on. After it dries take a razor or Xacto and trim it because the silicone will catch dust and look like *** after a while. That's what I did on my Coupe deVille, worked great.
mine might have some prongs that can be bent out, I'll take a pic later. I would think though that anything I bend out will just get bent back in as a push it on. They seem to grip pretty nicely when I put them on, guess the actual rotation of driving is too much though.
If the rims are stock originals, they are not designed to be used with radial tires. In other words, the rims are flexing causing the hub cap to walk it's way around the rim. Had the same problem with my 50 Ford rims with 55 Olds spinners after I changed over to Radials. Switched over to 87 Bronco II rims. Problem solved.
