    Ok guys,
I have been working up to this point for quite some time now. Metalwork, bodywork, priming, blocking, yadda yadda. (All my first attempts) I think I did a pretty fine job, but chickened out when it came to laying shiny paint, so I went with the Flatz stuff. Im glad I did, because There are spots where the bodywork isnt perfect, and laying paint was nothing like laying the primer.

I got a few drips here and there, and I totally forgot a step in my foolish rush to git er dun. I ended up wet sanding with 600 over the final prime coat, only to forget to wipe it down with anything more than a damp cloth.

Needless to say, I have some bleed through of wet sanding material on the rear quarter. I did nail the roof (a real *****) and the hood and front quarters to near perfection though:).

I have enough material to lay another coat on the spots that arent perfect, but I have a couple of questions:

I have some spots that dried a little rough- what should I do?
Will wetsanding the material where the bleed through of wet sanding be ok?

The only problem is I will have to wait another week before I can get back to it. Here are some pics of my first attempt with a product that I diddnt read many positives about. I think I did a pretty nice job, and the color is exactly what I wanted- Vintage Burgundy Pearl.

You can be proud of yourself for even trying and it looks pretty darn good. If it's got a hardener in the color coat you should be able to wet sand the orange peel with 800, but you'll probably want to recoat the entire car. Color really looks good. The FOGGER

Yeah, shes baking in the cloudy weather were having out here. I keep staring at the spots that I diddnt get done so well. Im kinda frustrated, I wanted it to come out perfect.

Note to self: NEVER be in even a bit of a hurry when laying paint. My sun was going down, and it was starting to get cold-er outside- shoulda prepped to perfection, and layed paint next week. I learned, I learned.:D

It looks real good. How much paint did you use and what size compressor?

I used about 2/3 of a Gallon, and my compressor is 5.5hp 30gallon.
I did two coats on the whole car (or so I thought) there are a few small spots that I missed - B pillars. Letting me know that I will be re-shooting a nice coat next week.

a buddy of mine told me that the trick to Hot Rod Flatz is to use PPG Hardner.

It turned out pretty damn good... and you did it yourself.

dude I know just how you feel about rushing the paint. It is probably one of my most hated jobs. Even with spray bombs I ****. I allways want to just fog on tons of paint and have it look great.
I think the color looks good. well done man that stuff can be scary.

I planned my next Sunday out. I will be scuffing the problem areas and re-shooting the sides. Then I should be able to live with it. Thanks for all the positive replys guys, I appreciate it! Now I just have to refrain from putting all my newly chromed goodies on it- arrrrgh!

Looks very good, and I love that color. My first attempt at painting would make that job look perfect. But just remember...you don't learn from getting it right...you learn from mistakes. It looks like you have a great start there, and I'm sure you'll only be improving from there. Thanks for the pics and keep us updated on the progress!

I love the color man... Looks good for a first try. It just gets easier from now on out. Touch up the bad spots, put it together, and hit the road! :D

I shot my first car with a reverse vacuum cleaner with Lacquer on a rainy day. Can you say blush?
Didn't turn out as good as yours. Sierra Gold cost two bucks a quart.
My car was a 52 Ford Hdtp in 1956.

Looks just as good as the first time I walked a whole car. Nice work!

    To answer questions:

The rough spots sound like dry spray. Chances are you were too far off the panel or moved to fast in those areas. Wetsand with 600ish until smooth an recoat. No biggee.

In the spots where it bled I would sand back down to clean and recoat. Stick with 400-600 and make sure you finish up around 600. Make sure that any spot you recoat has been prepped and sanded. A week will obviously be too long for chemical adhesion, so make sure to get good mechanical adhesion.

Just be aware (and I'm sure you are) that what you spray is what you get. There is no going back to cut and rub the bad spots. Good luck!

I hope to get mine to look at least half as good as that. I will also be using the Flatz, but in Plum Crazy Pearl

I think you did well for your first time. It takes a heavy set of nuts, to do something to your car that will be the first thing people see when they check it out. You tried, you learned and you're going to fix what you did wrong. Balls, man. You got 'em.
