Well i hope you score, I've been trying to buy that car for 6 years now. The story changes when its time to exchange the cash
You'd better check with Ace and see what's wrong with your approach because from what we see here it looks like all he did was make acontact and followed it up in a timely manner. With that many years invested you have to be making some big no-no's in your presentation. Frank
well i do have to give What Fenders one hell of a thanks. I'd never met him before in my life, and i hadn't even seen his post here until just now. but dipshit me, i forgot to bring my come along figuring the 72 year old tires would be just fine, and that my winch could pull it up...The front tires are great, except for the giant holes in the inner tubes haha so What Fenders just "happened to be in the area " (seeing who was taking his baby away) and was kind enough to take me back to his shop for one of his come alongs. Only took 3 hours but we got it up there. Plans are for 59AB, hydraulic brakes, a few suspension mods to get 'er a little lower then DRIVE it. Heres some pics: When i arrived this afternoon and took off the tarp (set of hyrdaulic brakes in the trunk too!). Engine is in trunk as well. Just like graduation, only better! Here's the Taylor brothers. Tom on the left, current owner, and Randy on right, previous owner. whoops...THAT'S why it doesn't turn when we pull it! little persuading and almost there...sure wish i had a come-along...: Look who was "in the neighborhood"! it's What Fenders: and look what we got! a come along! whew. it's up there. That's What Fenders, and my pal Rodney, who i also give a BIG thanks too for bringing along his company's service truck to haul my trailer. Thanks! all loaded, ready for her new home and at home, nestled under the shop light. still outside since i can't seem to find any wide 5 rims with tires that have air that's what tomorrow's for:
Congrats. Absolutely awsome find. I wonder how many times you will go out tonight just to look at her.
Nice score .. Don't even think about painting that car primer black or any other color , just shine it up and don't ruin someones handy work with the brush on those lights.
The fenders.... I found some nice fenders with good original paint. I picked up some delrin plastic and made hammers and dollys. I was able to "work" the dents out and save the paint. I totally agree with The Hank. Keep the paint. Did you know the engine was in the trunk? Jeff
leave that old paint? what? nah, i'm gonna paint it rattle can black with red rims and skinny whitewalled radials those stripes are the best part. i'm a pinhead myself so seeing that really made my day. I did know the engine was in the trunk. i can't recall why exactly they pulled it. What Fenders says he remembers a while back that one of the brothers had stripped a spark plug hole, (aluminum heads), so they decided to pull the engine and rebuild the whole thing while they were at it, but never got that far along. in actuality, i'll probably get it running first then worry about the dents in the fenders, and get some glass too. it's all bubbled. Anyhow, thanks guys. had a good (long) night. can't wait to get home from work and go through all the stuff! -ace
Insane find. In-freaking-sane. That thing is in nuts shape. Congrats man, cant wait to see this thing come together.
Wow man, that is kick ass! Great car and cool that they seem to care what happened to it! Can't wait to see your progress on this one
I hope you promised to go back and take the previous owners for a spin once it's back on the road. Great story, great ending.
Well done, Ace. It's great to see a happy outcome. The softly softly approach can work. Make sure you give the bros a spin in it when it's back running again. Good karma. Mart.
thanks everyone, i'm going back to pick up a stack of Hot Rod mags from the 50s, and that Car Club T-shirt (the Knights of Albuquerque,NM) of his. I think he has a bunch of extra parts in the basement or somewhere for the car too...like all the hardware for a rumble seat! The younger brother Tom, who randy sold the car to back in 78, lives in Downers Grove,IL outside of Chicago. I told him come October he needs to drive to Morris for the Hunnert Car Pileup and see it in person! Or, i told him i'd make a "detour" to Downers Grove and drive him around the block. Hope they aren't pissed when they see 3 deuces on it...
thats funny, good score! i actually called about this car on sunday because it was in the cleveland craigs list for 6000 bucks. the guy told me there was a bidding war going on and he was gonna wait a few days to see what happened. not sure if any of this was mentioned in the post, didn't read it all but i'm glad a hamber got it and not just some collector to turn it into a high dollar item. good luck!
Glad you got it Ace, it looks even better than I imagined it. That paint is great and color is perfect. What a sweet old car! Enjoy!!
Fricking awesome dude. Gotta love that car and the history with it. Good luck getting it back on the road, and your plans for it are just perfect. Mike
So here's a picture of the "t-shirt" mr. taylor says he had when he was in the Knights car club in Albuquerque. Not a t-shirt at all! In fact it's a nice gabardine button up with chain stitching! Turns out i had his name all wrong too. i knew they called him "Ran", but his nickname was Ranny. I thought his brother was calling him "Randy". whoops...anyhow, that's on the shirt pocket. I also buffed the hell out of the 72 year old paint....WOW. i'll post pictures tomorrow of that when it's outside. i was amazed! front:
