some people do not participate in recessions. they just retreat to the shop and count the vehicles they already own and dream of the ones they have yet to buy

  2. What will 25 louver hood tops sell for if the sides are that pricey ????

  3. All the tops are the same,,, HRP

Personally, I always thought the 25 louver hoods made the nose of the car look too long....out of proportion.

I to was looking at that hood. Not to buy 'cause I knew.............. but curiosity made me watch it. The final price did rock me back even in this "gotta have a Deuce" feeding frenzy that's been going on on Ebay. I made sure my wife saw the auction after it closed. Nothing like keeping her conditioned on the "going rate".:D She remembers when I bought a rust free full fendered steel '32 5w with a 270 hp 283, Borg Warner 4 spd, for $3000.

At 5G's you wouldn't have to tool up! You could hand work, and use a roller to cut each louver individually at that price. Wow...

  12. But they sure help a SBC run cooler in a warm weather climate!

Kinda neat doing it the "Henry" way - with a 25 vent!

The hot rodders would simply punch louvers in the tops of the hood..problem solved...

  16. I started watching this auction as well when it was in the $2's... just out of curiousity.

Really makes me wonder what my garage full of 26 louver duece hoods are worth these days?

  17. That's how an auction works. Two guys with more money than brains throw money around until one backs out and the item sells for way more than it's worth. I've sold some crap on eBay that brought pretty crazy prices for what it was, too. But damn, I wish I had a pile of gennie '32 stuff to run on there.

these same office boys did the same thing with harley-davidson's a few years back. they'd go into the dealer and flash their gold cards, so the price of everything h.d. went through the roof. now they don't want to "ride" anymore and the market is flooded with used bolt on chromed out gold card bikes! hopefully these dorks will get tired of hotrods like they did harley's!

I never noticed before that 25 louver hoods had two shorter louvers by the latch bumper. Huh...... and I've been sniffin' deuce stuff for nearly three decades. Ya learn something everyday.

Another recent eBay deuce item that pissed me off big time was a 3w driver's inner door skin. Original, rusty piece that topped out at $875. I figured I'd go as high as $400. I really need one..... but I guess I'll make one. Copying my minty passenger door inner shouldn't take much more than 40 hours!!!!!

Office boys? You are sounding like a snob. Isnt that what everyone hated about "gold chainers".

I know when I sold my '32 Ford and got an "above market" amount it was an older guy who worked his ass off and had some more money later in life. He had the same car when he was young and had to sell it when he had a wife and kids. The guy paid his dues and was in a position to get his dream car and money was his secondary concern... More power to him. Hope I am in the same positions. Maybe you should work a little harder and save a little better if it pisses you off so much.

I don't think they do, I bought a set from Rootlieb, and chose to have the front two shorter and they look just like the ones that sold? I think the guy bought a repop set of hood sides. HA HA wouldn't that be the sheeeets.--TV

These are original 25 vent hoods ... :D

I can assure you that the $5,937 hood is original 32 Ford ... not a repro. :D The high bidder has bought other 25 vents hoods off eBay ... for big $$$. He knows what he bought .

Not knocking on Max's 32 Cabriolet but look at his hood ( Rootlieb ) and then look at the others :)

On a original 25 vent hood ... the vents are so opened up ... you can clearly see the engine. Not so on the repros. The lenght of the vents are not right either.

Some one stated earlier in this thread about Brookville considering making a 25 vent hood. I do not see that happening anytime soon ... they can not keep up with the orders for 32 roadsters and 3W's as it is ... and their car bodies and pieces are not " dead on " ... why would you think their hoods would be any closer??

I have NEVER seen a repro part ... as good as the original 32 Ford part installed at the factory ... or could not be told from the original one.

  26. Not really, because it gives guys like us that know how to scrounge and search, the opportunity to find deals on stuff like this. Look at my first post at the ones I bought for $6.00! I myself won't sell them because I'd rather have Deuce parts than money, but some of you other guys can find stuff like this and turn a good buck and pay for your hobby because of "spoiled office boys". Be careful of what you sell though, because in a few years you might be saying "I had one and sold it for much less years ago"

Some guys have more money than time so Ebay works for them (or for you if you are the seller). They aren't stupid or they wouldn't have figured out how to make enough money to enjoy this hobby too. Finding a piece of old tin or a car for a good price every once in a while keeps us looking for more. Have you ever heard of the "thrill of the chase"?

Think positive, every thing that happens in life can be turned into an opportunity for you to take advantage of.

I bought a rusty one at a swap about four years ago. Wasn't sure it was a regular '32 25-louver cause it was only $150. I thought it may have been a '33 truck at first, til I counted the louvers.

Took it home and listed it on Ebay. Got $800 and was happy. Probably about the max considering the rust pits in it. It went to Sweden if I remember correctly.

Seems to me that if just one HAMB member sees this thread and buys a set of these hood sides for cheap money and then sells them for a $650 profit :)

This would make this a very worthwhile thread.

  29. Yeah, you have to look at it this way, the guy who finds a set for cheap and sells them for stupid money, can dump that money right into his project and be that much further along.

  30. How hard would it be to make some of these with a bead roller, and a louver die? May have to make a special contour die or two, I bet Kiwi Kev could do it.
