Santa Maria motel input(how was it?)

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Groucho, May 27, 2008.

  1. Where'd ya stay, and how was the content of cool cars. Also, where was it relative to the host Inn or fairgrounds? I stayed at a dump that was surely OK and fun. But, I won't go back to it. So, tell me all about YOUR place. Please include as much detail.

My wife booked us at the Holiday Inn. North of all the activity, but that was a good thing when we wanted to sleep. There were alot of people from the show in the parking lot with their cars and cars alone, made for better veiwing of some of the better cars and talking with owners about what, where, why, etc. Also saw the hard luck story of the show, (in my opinon). Really cool three window duece hiboy, nice flat motor, steel wheels, bias plies. On the way to Santa Maria the generator mount on the intake broke, and the generator and fan had the radiator for lunch, looks like at freeway speed too.

Saw the car at the show on Sat. and one of his buds said the tubes did'nt get any holes in them, but w\o a generator and water pumps I don't know how he got home. If anyone knows the guy I hope he made it home ok.

We will stay here next time and enjoy ourselfs, I would recomend it.

  3. We stayed near the airport at the Radisson. It was a real nice place but carried the $185 a night price tag.The staff was real cool, the food(expensive)in the 2 hotel spots was a good and so was the drinks in the hotel bar(also pricey). There was a bunch of nice cars in the parking lot to look at and we met some cool people who shared their beers:D..Only downside to the place was that there was a High School Prom going on in one of the ballrooms Saturday night...lots of stupid kids trying real hard to impress eachother with bling and at***ude:cool:....Next year i am staying closer to the Santa Maria Inn and all the action.

We stayed at the Santa Maria Inn. They couldn't have been more accommodating. They even brought us cups for our beer in the parking lot. The rooms were older but clean. We never had to drive anywhere but the show itself. We walked to everything else we did. It was great!

We even got to know two of the managers by name.

We wrote them thank you letters.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn. It was at the far end of the strip at the fwy entrance. Not too bad interms of distance especialy since we hung out with people staying at the SM Inn anyway. The rooms were much nicer than the SM Inn but it was far from the action.

Anyone stay at the little motels closer to the SM Inn?

I'm really curious about the VILLA MOTEL. It was about half a block down from the SM Inn on the opposite side of the street

  7. We had one of the 1 bedroom suites.I reserved the room online the day after the show was announced so i've had it for a while. The guy at the desk told us that the same room was going for $225 next year:eek:

I guess that since the weekend was such a success, alot of the hotels will jack up the rates for next Memorial Day...sounds like somewhere else i knew

Stayed here also...going back there next year , (unless I get rooms at the Santa Maria Inn for some freak reason) all the rooms have a small kitchen, good for late night foraging

  9. I stayed 2 blocks south of the S.M. Inn on the opposite side of the street. Villa Motel. I took 5 rooms and a friend took 10, so there was plenty of good hangin out for sure. But the place was a bit dumpy. I like these motels where all the rooms face the parking lot. I like draggin the chairs from the room into the parking lot, and having my ****tails and bathroom right there. I prefer this style over motels with hallways a lot for this type of stuff. Also we had a pretty decent Chinese food place with a walk up Taco window inside next door that was pretty handy

stayed at the comfort inn, it was clean and cheap. we lived off the free continental breakfast each day. the room came with a refer and microwave. after a quick stop at costco for beer and microwave burritos we were set. we were on a budget so it was beer and microwave burritos all weekend.

Stayed at the Comfort Inn. About 2-3 miles from the action, just on the other side of the freeway. Rooms were nice and reasonable( for now). Some of the downstairs rooms even had sliders facing out to the parking lot, perfect for pullin out the chairs n kickin. Cool crewof cars and people stayin there. The bonus was havin a IHOP attached to it. No h***les from the management about drinkin in the lot. Wouldnt mind stayin a little closer to the action though. Be interesting what they do with prices come next year. Met some real cool people there.

I thought I was going to sleep in the car... went to one of the nice hotels, all they had was a double for $185. pulled into the next one (dumpy) and it looked like a bunch of people were living there.. no thanks.

the third try was another dump. the room went from $120.00 down to $60.00 as we walked from the office to the time he got the key in the door to show me. it stunk of smoke and kind of reminded me of a large prison cell. glad i had a look before forking over my cash,

found one more beyond what I wanted to pay and struck gold finally at a small place with like 10 rooms. an old place with raised panel doors and br*** hardware. nicely painted and clean. I can't remember the name. $60.00. I think I'll stay there next year.

    We need names, Hotel names,
We stayed at the Villa also! It was a dump. I'm sure it will be a 200 dollar a night dump next year.
We're figuring north of the SM Inn but not past Donavan bowling.
I think it's a hit and miss on these little motels. We're also figuring on just rolling up that morning and getting something, otherwise were camping!
Can't be worst than some of them hotels.

We always stay at the Motel 6 just as we did this year. Rooms are what they are and just enough for what you need....prices don't go up! we paid like $60-70 a night and we always book the back wings near the pool and all down stairs rooms......we do just like Groucho mentioned, we pull out chairs and BBQ grilles and coolers....and partay! Although the day time Manager didn't like us lighting the grille at 4pm (we should have waited until he left) we just moved the party across the street between the Holiday Inn and Motel 6 and everything was cool.....we got a good little crowd over there and hung out until 4:am These Motels are right along side the freeway and an industrial park so we didn't have the cops at every corner eyeballing us and another great thing was....they opened up a brand new Harley Davidson dealer right next door to the Motel 6 so that was nice to check out. We already booked up all the down stairs rooms but everyone is still invited to join us next year at the BBQ.....It's fun times, good food, and enough salsa to BURN YOUR ***! all the way home!

primarily we stayed at a Bed & Breakfast in Nipomo, the whole place was ours for the weekend.
it is about +/= 7 miles north of downtown S.M.... within walking distance to JACKO's (good food there).

they let us park in the back which is ****in HUGE... and apparently we were given the go ahead to have a party with bands if we wanted to.

its good because half of us like to drink and make lots of noise, the other half doesn't drink and likes to chill out.

next year i think we are moving closer to the host hotel..

  16. I go to a small swap meet up north every September, and will leave earlier and check out some more places in S.M. on the way there and again on the way back. This is what I did for this show and came up with the Villa. Like I said, it was close, and good enough for this year, and had a ball hanging out there. But, I'd rather not do it again. I really miss having a "usual" spot in Paso to see friends from the north only that event

  17. The SM Inn was HOPPIN'!

Cool cars, great atmosphere... I even witnessed an emplyee at the SMI tell someonethat they should put their beer in a cup so the cops don't har*** them! The guy was about to dump it out! And she was like "No, no, no! Just get a cup!"...

Then you had the SNUGGLERS... need I say more?

Terry and I stayed at the Motel 6... Friday night some stupid mother****ers were yelling and running around about 1am... and lighting fire crackers! This **** went on for a half hour... and they didn't bother stopping it.

Sam, we were at the Motel 6 but in our room by 1:am on Friday night....we did hear some noise but i guess we were so tired that it didn't bother us. were you in the front or back? Saturday night is when we stood up late but it was a cool respectful crowd we had out there. Those ****ers were probably the same ones that started that fire Saturday night across from the Holiday Inn.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn just off the freeway on Broadway. It was nice, and the staff was great! They even reserved a large area in the front just for West Coast Kustom Show parking! We had a 2-bedroom suite, good for 6 people, with a full kitchen. But, we were out so much we really didn't use it. 190 a night + tax...It'll probably be more next year. No problem rolling over my reservations for next year either. Only one complaint...some idiot with a pickup and & car-trailer parked sideways accross 5 parking spaces for 3 days straight! 50 yards away, and he could have parked on a safe culdesac street like several other people with trailers, leaving the much needed spaces for customs & hotrods. I think they were from Antioch area...I wish I would have snapped a picture, I'd post it. Shame! Shame!

  22. We were on the West side in room 110... it was NUTS!

    Groucho,
You are too funny! We enjoyed hanging at the Villa Motel with you and all the other guys. But, WOW, you are being really kind with your description. Our club had 7 rooms and they were out of line. Bathrooms didn't work, water from the faucets was BROWN, smelled like mold, (not suprising since the roof looked like a penicillin culture, stairs were about to split, and I am not even going to describe the linens/sheets. I agree the place was laid-out well for the humungous parking lot party, etc. Alas, I agree, we will not stay there again.

We stayed at the Rose Garden, just a few miles north of the Santa Maria Inn. There were about 10 cars there for the show. Cool spot. I would stay there again.

  26. We stayed at the Best Western on Broadway about 2 blocks from the bowling alley. Plenty of cars and fun people. Security let the more "reserved" drinkers hang out and sit in the parking lot til 1 or 2 in the morning. If you were being loud and disruptive you were asked to take it into your room. we paid about $160 a night for Friday and Saturday, but only $89 for Sunday. I'm sure it'll go up next year.

Hey Neighbor! I was @ the Rose Garden Inn with my girl I think I met you and chevnut. Here's a picture I sent to chevnut already, I dig the new lines that Dorr pulled for you.

Groucho overall: I dug the rose garden a bit spendy, but whatever. I'd stay again. Location is good.. not far for the show, Denny's right there, Pool looked nice. Wireless internet was handy.
Good amount of cars and they seemed car trailer friendly. If we go again I'll take a basketball. (There's tennis courts too.) We might try to switch it up next year.

My favorite part of the RGI The ice machine made ice that looked like Ice Waffles!!!

No way, I was there too. I did not see your car there or I would have said hello. As far as the Rose Garden, free tri-tip dinner mon-thur. Since we got there thursday, dinner for the family was free. Tennis, pool & basketball courts was cool. Service as far as equipment( raquets, basketball, tennis balls, heated pool) this was all available for my 9,7,&2 yr old kids and they say it was pretty awesome. Though the dumpiness is still apparent, the price of $405 total with tax included for 4 days and 3 nights is not bad. Plenty of parking even if you brought a trailer. It is walking distance to a Denny's and Jack -in the box if youre into mystery meat tacos. Overall I would stay there again but we prospected another place about 15 miles away for next year.
