There's a couple that run excursions in Minnesota and Wisconsin. One of those things I need to do someday.

I dig Steam locomotives as well. I think the thing that appeals to me so much, is that they seem to be alive. They seem to have a loud, hot breath, all the linkages working like the muscles of a big cat. They are just a very cool piece of machinery.

We have a Big Boy in the museum at Pomona Fairplex. If you come to the father's day show, check it out. It does really make you proud of what has been built in America. Also, the SP Daylight 4449 will be in Sherwood, Oregon while the city's big annual car show is on in June.

Steam was used here widely until just a few years ago... EU might have really put an end to it. Anyway there are still a few trains a few lines and a festival of two you never have to go far.

There is a wonderful rail Museum in Warsaw

And many many trains on display all over Eastern Europe.

"For you L.A./southern Cal guys, a question.....how did the group or promoter or whoever, for the L.A. to San Diego trip get approval to run the steam loco with the amount of "pollution"/smoke it puts in the air, especially if it's coal fired? I'd think the CAFE board/et all in Sacramento would be going nuts."

I live in Durango and the narrow gauge steam engines are always under fire from the tree huggers. It's been speculated that the owner of the Durango Silverton train has put over a million dollars into scrubbers and other pollution control devices. BTW, due to a drop in tourism, the first train out in the morning was cancelled.

When we remodeled our house, we added a window so that we can see the train from the dining room table and the breakfast nook.
