  8. Soooooo....about the Bannister car?

  9. Someone, either, forgot to or didn't properly neutralize the acid when the metal was etched prior to leading. (you have to neutralize the acid BEFORE you apply the lead, not afterwards as it'll continue to etch the steel under the lead if i's not neutralized) Now the lead's lifting along with the paint. Issue's been there since before the car was painted (visible in pre-paint pictures) but the car was painted anyway.

Now there's a lawsuit and the car sits. Wrong party is the target of the litigation, in my opinion.

  10. Skip, you're kidding!
    What a shame.....
    And a what?
    A lawsuit?
    For God's sake.
I hope I'm not speaking out of turn but hasn't money caused enough bullshit for people associated with that car?
    Some never learn I guess.
Not that my opinion of people amounts to a hill of beans but if the same guy still owns that car (the one who owns Norm Wallace's car as well) I shouldn't be surprised.
I was never really impressed with him in the first place.

Speaking of lawsuits. I just read in Whip's Wheels magazine about the promoter of Summer Nationals Bob Moscoffian and it was pretty enlightening. Apparently according to the article Bob does not like to pay his bills for the show or his towing business. I have requested permission from the magazine to scan and post the article so others can read it. The article is written in a very humorous way to deal with a TRULY SAD problem.

I got permission from Steve earlier to post his editorial article and he was kind enough to forward it. I do not know Bob personally but feel that there has been enough things said to warrant some info posted. It is dirtbags like this who try to build their own wealth off the hard work of small companies and using the funds that are due to these companies as personal pocket change. I have seen this type of practice in many industries and the ones behind it are all the same. At least when they are exposed then the enthusiasts can decide if they want to even attend the functions and companies can be made aware of the poor business practices and lack of decency prior to doing any work.

This happens to be from a somewhat local promoter for us New Englanders and a show that many of us do and would attend. There are too many good promoters and car clubs out there to put up with the antics of the bad ones.

Wow, the guy sounds like a piece of work. :|

I took my E-type Jag to that show one year, God, has to be 6-8 years ago now. Go to hotel in city, pay money, drive to Green Hill Park. Park car among all kinds of cars - no order, no groupings. Walk around, try to find cars I want to look at among the thousands of cars. Made no sense to me. And I'm not into the stupid tire-smoke thing either.

I guess I just figured it wasn't for me. Plenty of other shows - British sports car stuff, hotrod stuff, etc., to go to. Never went back.

  17. Where can you get Whips Wheels?I used to get it at "Modelers Junction"in Methuen but he closed up shop.

  18. Yup, that's it.

I built a cloth-covered wire harness over the Forth of July holiday a couple of years ago. Heard the project's stalled. Haven't talked to Larry for a while now but heard the rumor that he was initiating some sort of legal action regarding the lifting black paint. Don't know the particulars but suspect that the leadwork, not the paint work on top, is the culprit.

Also heard that the blistering wasnoticed before the paint was applied and may have been ignored or an attemt may have been made to cover the offending spots with a skim coat of plastic body filler.

If the metal under the filler is bad, the filler will eventually bubble.

I was given my copy at the Star Drive-in for this past Thursday night cruise. It seems to be a pretty nice little newspaper.

Hey guys- I know Bob quite well but that editorial was WAY out of line IMO.

Publicizing stuff like that will only get people to check out the show more AND makes Whip look like a whiny child.

Shit like this happens EVERY DAY in this business and if you cant hack it then maybe this isnt the vensue you work in/for.

Hell, if I posted something everytime someone shafted me on work I did- Id be spending my time here instead of building cars. And YES, some of them have been HAMBERS but thats between me as a business and the guy who's car I worked on. There is NEVER a need to ait dirty laundry like that.

Not to mention that Whip's commentary could easily land him in court with slander charges. I just think it wasnt a cool move- whether or not its true is almost irrelevant to me.

I just have one question- why take the ad/ work without receiving payment first? I know in every publication or ad Ive done - they ask for $$ up front ??

So that makes it OK in your mind? Folks should remember to never do any business with you.
BTW...it is only slander if what he says can be proven to be false.

I have run my own business for 8 years and have seen many companies and individuals like that. They don't last long.

And the reason for "airing dirty laundry" as you mistakingly call it is so that anyone local on this site that may decide to do business with Bob can be forewarned as to what they may encounter. Simply a public service announcement to protect those trying to make a living. Not to mention Bob is getting some of our tax dollars and transportation revenues for this event. I don't want my financial contributions going to this type of businessman.
