hey all i am thinking about putting a floor shifter in the f100... ive seen the lokar ones but that is a lil rich for my blood... any ideas as to what else i could use... the truck used to be a stick on the column.. but when it was restored it was converted to an automatic using the stock shifter arm on the column.. it seems a bit sloppy and im thinking about getting rid of it for a floor shifter... what do you think?

any mustang or cougar floor shifter will work. the earlier ones are more chrome and less plastic and will look a little time correct...sort of. My dads 66 f100 had a very early one that was mostly chrome. I had an early 70's one in my truck that has black handle and trim ring around it. Only drawback is that the shifters are short. If your seats sit up high as with the bench seats then it is kind of awkward. If you have buckets like my father then it is pretty nice setup.

What tranny are you using. The shifter linkage on the tranny is a little different for the floor shifter ones as apposed to the column shifter ones. You may have to make up a custom setup for the linkage. I had to do that with my c4 when I used a floor shifter since it was originally from a column shift.

I think Hurst and/or B&M make a tall shifter that is like $100 bucks and would look clsoe to right for your truck. Summit sells them brand new. Maybe one of the Alliance members has them too.

  5. How about a universal shifter, cut the stick off, and weld a manual stick on it? They have them with no button, you push down or pull up to go from park to reverse to drive. Cover the guts with a rubber manual boot.

I used a '67 mustang shifter in my rod hooked to an AOD. I had to fab the linkage and play with the geometry a bit to get the detents right. I removed the T handle and fixed a 5/16" bolt shank to the cable and extended the shifter arm with some stainless tubing.

Mustang, Cougar, Pinto all the same real simple hookup to th350. I have used these on esveral engine swaps and genarly they were one of the easiest thing to make work. The biggest issue is getting something hooked up in terms of a neutural safety switch.

    B&M Unimatic. It's almost 13" tall. ~$120 at Jegs.
