OK I used search and Google and can't find what I'm looking for, so I'm hoping to find it now. I've got a 1967 Cadillac Eldo tilt/tele steering column for a steel a few weeks back. I'm planning on putting it into my truck but I can't figure out how the tele part works. I bought a 67 Caddi shop manual, and it tells me all I need to take it apart and wire it up, but still nothing on how the tele works. Anyone know? The column worked before I had it shipped to me, but the steering wheel was removed for shipping. Also I'll be putting an after market wheel on this column. I've got the Momo adapter with the slot for the tele control lever but the lever won't fit. Am I missing a part from the adapter kit or is this a "modify as needed" part? Thanks.
I had a 70 Eldorado and the telescopic lever was located on the column itself. The lever slides from side to side and you just pull the steering wheel back and lock it into the desired position using the lever.
I've never seen an "adapter kit" that works perfectly... The "tele" part works on a screw principle...meaning there should be a small "plate" with a lot of holes in it (for several screws to hold the lever in place)under the horn ring, under that "plate" is a long rod that goes down into the column ...turn that "plate" and it "unscrews"...allowing you to lengthen the column...tighten it and it screws in...holding the column in its place where ever you want it...you can take that "plate" and whole long rod out if you are careful...but there shouldn't be any reason for you to. Hey thanks for the input guys. Evidently I couldn't see the forest for the trees. I just didn't have the center bolt that the lock lever attaches to tight enough. Live and learn I guess. Thanks
