"Selling parts pays the rent, buying the stuff is what's fun". Love it! Man, would it ever be fun to walk through his warehouses!!!

He reminds me of the old parts house I used to go to; The ol dude at the counter had memorized all the popular part#'s and rarely had to go to the book. I'd say "I need a set of .030 rings for a '64 283, a Felpro gasket set for the same, etc, etc." All the while, he's writing down the part numbers on a pad of paper as I'm calling off the parts. He says "be right back". and back he'd come with an arm load of boxes.

Stacy has bailed me out a few times. When I had the 223 in my '57 Ford, the starter crapped out on my one night in Denton. I towed the car to a friend's house, woke up the next morning and called Antique Auto Parts.
    "You got a starter for a '57 Fairlane, 223?"
    "Yep"
    "I'll be right there!"

I drove out to Arlington and, in the box, was a BRAND NEW Ford starter....not a reman or aftermarket part. Absolutely unbelievable. I drove back out to Denton, slapped it on and was back on the road in no time. I would have waited at least a week to get one from anywhere else...and there aren't many places left to get them from at all.

I would love to wander around in those buildings and look around. I heard a couple of the warehouses burned down a couple of years ago. Anyone know if that's true?

You know I know just how that guy feels. :)

As long as you feel like 'you own the stuff' it's OK

If it ever feels like 'the stuff owns YOU' it's hell.

we got one of those guys here in Fremont California.... on the one hand this guys stuff is not all NOS, but it does not go up to the 70's either. Don's Antique Auto Supply. this guy has been 70 years old since I first rode my bike down to his store around 1974, and he's still 70.

if you could hook his brain up to your computer you could sell the CD's of automotive knowledge for $100.00.

"the fun is in the buying" ... that's for damn sure.

    good thread.

Well, thanks voodooblade, Hope I can get through on moday. another point for texas, maybe you guys do have it all. I for one, am glad there are guys like that, that are helping preserve these parts for Us guys, rather than hauling it in for $350 a ton scrap.
