So. What did you get done this weekend??

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tugmaster, Jun 1, 2008.

  1. Pretty good weekend here. I installed the motor and trans in my car Friday night after the local cruise night:D. Pain in the ass all by myself but I managed to do it without scratching or denting anything!
Sat I went to my folks in Jersey for there 50th anniversary, I taught a safe boating class today and started fitting my exhaust manifolds (a little firewall trimming required) this afternoon.
BACK TO THE GRIND TOMORROW! Todd

Burned up some gas and smoked some tires. Tired of lousy weather and working on the 55, it was time to cruise

Had a couple of friends over yesterday, pulled the cab and box back off. Will now do all the plumbing on the chassis, exhaust, brakes, fuel, clutch. Had to trick them just a little with a bluegill fry and plenty of cold Natty lights. Should be able to put them back on in about two weeks.

I only got Saturday to work, F'ing Oregon rain and only a leaky carport. I got my motor and trans ready for paint and started planning my motor mounts for our 55' Zephyr Zodiac.

Put a NOS mechanism in my speedo, reset the odometer to zero (it was on 00,039 when I got it and hasn't moved), repainted the needle and cleaned up the insides of the housing, bench tested it and put it back in with a new universal cable core. The core doesn't fit the speedo head correctly so I still don't have a functioning speedo but it sure is purty! Can't find the correct cable so I bought a S-W adapter for the transmission end off Ebay last night and will start hunting for a screw on cable that will fit my speedo.

Also practiced the "3 on the Tree Shuffle" some more. When nobody is around it slides right into second but as soon as somebody's watching or behind you in traffic 2nd gear hides on me. But if I can get the column shifter straightened out I may just keep the 3 speed/OD instead of swapping in the 200-4R. I hated the "Three on the Tree" when I was a kid but it's kind of cool now.

Also set the timing and nosed around in the nooks and crannies underneath I couldn't get to before to see if the car is really as solid as it appeared when I bought. It is.

Remember the green tinted sun visor extensions every old fart had in his car back in the 60's? Guess somebody still makes them or at least did fairly recently. My kid bought an 80's Crown Vic for a demo car and found a brand new pair under the front seat. He gave 'em to me for the Stude. My rolled her eyes and said "You are NOT putting those in it are you?" I have to, I'm an old fart. :D

I just got done tearing out the temp. roller rear end and whacking off some extensions I made for the frame about a year and a half ago, getting ready to get that frame finnished up.

  15. Yup, 305, TRW274 cam (basically a 350 cam) Cast iron manifold from a 67 Camaro and probably a 600CFM Holley.

  16. Learned better how to hand-crank my 2CV so I can continue being too lazy to order a starter. Plus I enjoy being weird.

Re-upholstered the kitchen chairs, matching the living room couches.

Made armrest covers for said furniture.

    Rode Triumph.

Not bad for my only day off (Sunday)

I finished dressing all the welds in my Chevy, and I sat the new quarters in place. HOT! Waiting on new doors before I can hang and finish the quarters. They should be here in a week or so. I'm about 95% done with the metal work. What a journey! New floors, new braces, new inner/outer rockers, new trunk floor/braces, splash pan, under tail lights, new inner/outer wheel wells, and new quarters. Disregard the mismatched primer, its just a coat until I can get it media blasted.
