Of course I have, who hasn't? The only thing is that when I do, I immediately get burned out and have to take a break or I'm sure I'll do something stupid like sell off the project or "donate" the parts to someone who can use them.

I wanted to build a huge z'ed frame but let a couple of buddies of mine talk me out of it. Then I went to vlv 07 and knew i messed up. So i finished redoing the frame this winter and im glad i did. Sits alot better and is close to the look i was going for in the first place.

Started building a '32 frame for my '29 phaeton body. Found a channelled '32 5w body, so I sold the 29 body to pay for it. Found a 79,000 mile flawless '32 5 w and had to sell the channelled 5w body to pay for it. Ordered a Brookville body to go on frame started for '29 phaeton. See avitar for results. Change my mind in middle of build? Never.

I almost did that when doing my T Bucket. I started out with a specific goal and somehow I found myself entering "fad T land"! I was starting to save up and want all the stuff that had kept me from starting a hot rod. A bunch of chrome and fancy **** that had nothing to do with getting the car finished. Believe it or not, it was my girlfriend that got me back on track. Sometimes, looking at catalogs and magazines between build stages, can corrupt the mind.

I am in that boat as well. My coupe started life as a channeled POS. Body sub frame as I got it was 3/4 angle brazed poorly together. A moth eaten A frame with copper brake lines!

I then straightened the body and in an earlier life started to build it as a pro-street race rod. Now it in on the path to correctness as seen in my build thread

If you have time to change your mind, you need to BUILD FASTER.

Done it all my life - the most expensive mistake you can make. This is what generates a collection of unwanted parts - the ones you had before you changed your mind.

We were just talking about that yesterday. I have had enough parts to build 5 cars in the 4 years I've been on this thing. For instance I started with a flatty, changed gears and got a caddy, left it behind in a move because it turned out to be a 368 and I didn't like it good enough to get a loader. Then a 429 fell in my lap and I actually had it bolted in until some other stuff happened and gas got high, then this cute little 260 turns my head and now I am gussying it up for the harvest moon ball.

The one I'm doing right now I have built as a doodlebug 3 times and a modified 3 times, 2 different bodies, 2 different engines, rears and ******s, sold the engine, bought it back 6 mos. later, sold the body, grille, cowl steering etc. then bought it all back, sold to different people. Thing is driving me nuts.

Hell yeah. I wanted to build a hotrod, so I bought a 36 chevy sedan because it was cheap. I wasnt really "into it", but the build continued. You know sub frame, small block, turbo 350, chevy rear end..... then it sat for a while, not what I wanted!! I wanted a trad hotrod coupe!!! So I sold everything, now I have a hotrod coupe. back on track.

Money and a new baby on the way is forcing me to modify my rocket 32 build i just can't afford a $10,000. rocket motor or close there to it. i sold all my rocket parts and did pretty well on them and picked up a 365hp 327 that came out of a wrecked 65 vett in 67 the motor only had 12000 miles on it and has been sitting ever since so it looks like my 50's themed 32 will now become a 60's theme car. i ****s when money controls your build but i guss thats a part of life and hotrod building.

I was going to put a Caddy flathead into a '36 Chevy Pickup.
I coouldn't figure out WHY I wasn't making any progress on the project.
After a while I decided that the '36 was too ugly and sold the lot.

Sometimes ya just gotta start over with something you LIKE!

Yep change my mind almost everytime I post a question on HAMB - I get good feedback so I change my mind alot - O and by the way thankyou for the feedback on my homemade radius rods from a month or so back. All input was correct - they were not strong enough - I put them to a bend test in a press and they folded - Ive gone to 1 1/8 solid heat treaded rod with a new design thanks again - Ja**

my 54 chevy was 80% done, and i pulled it all back apart because i wanted a 4 speed instead of a TH350. Thus meaning the motor be pulled with the ****** because its easier now because only 14 bolts and the nose is off. as we speak my motor is at work in my bay all torn apart because i figured the heck with it im gonna rebuild it. lol...its almost back together all i have left are the heads, intake and distributor. Plus all of the front end accessories obviously but the lower end is completly all done from the cam lifters down. just waiting for my pushrods to get here this week. the valves are all redone as well. If you dont change your mind in a build you'll never be happy with it.

The question should be have I ever NOT changed my mind mid build!

  24. GEEZ, I wish I COULD build fast enough so the projects wouldn't have to change several times along the way. Even then, there would most probably be an evolving plan throughout the whole project anyway.

The whole nature of the Hot Rodder Personality is to experiment, try new things, improvise, sometimes start over, and keep on building.

If we didn't get those ideas that keep poking us in the rib, probably 90% of us would be collecting stamps or something.

    Have to agree!

My ideas change, my finances change and most importantly from when I started my Roadster until now my tastes improved(only had streetrodders influence when I first got into rods, now look here for my inspiration.
