Drilling F1 Backplates

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by blackjack, Jun 2, 2008.

  1. Today I made a very simple jig for drilling the cir***ference of my F1 backplates.

Once I'd set it up so it was concentric I just stepped off the distance between the holes with a pair of dividers and drilled pilots using a 3mm bit. I then went up to 8mm. The great thing was that I didn't have to measure anything.

That old Ford metal is tough stuff and I had one hole where the drill just skidded off and dug itself in off-centre - so I used my hot metal pump to fill that hole and then filed it smooth and hit it with the centre punch and drilled it again.

I'll do the right hand one tomorrow.

I drilled mine using a divider and a measuring tape:

Great timing! I was looking at drilling my backing plates for my T project. I like the scoops also. All examples here look great.
