I talked to a guy named Mike, who runs a business called "Creative Tire Artistry" in Milwaukee. For a little over $100.00 he will cut (4) narrow white walls into WIDE white walls. It changes 3/4" whites into 1 3/4" to 2 1/4" wide whites depending on the brand of tire. He said about the only tire that DOESN'T work well are MICHELINS. He spins them right on your car. I do not know him personally, but he seemed like a real nice guy over the phone. His core business is fixing tires on used car lots......getting rid of curb rash. He is listed in the Milw. yellow pages under TIRES-RETREADING&REPAIRING PM me if you can't find the # in the phone book. Dennis
I am going up to Milwaukee this weekend and having mine done. I will post some pics and let you know how it turns out.
I can vouch for the Michelin thing, I just tried to grind one, and the white layer is REALLY thin and I ground right through it in spots, and only is about 1/2" wider than the existing whitewall.
shaved white walls are kool as long as he knows what he's doing ,its thins the side wall tends to meke it weaker , i had a set of firestone fr380 they came out ok except the white wall stained brown at the edge dont know why that happend (drove thru some mean ****) but dam a $100 for 4 tires the guy that did mine was $15 bux a tire and that included mounting and balancing . dam yankees
Well, I have to say that I am 100% satisfied with how the tires came out. I watched him do it the whole time. I would definately recommend Mike to anyone. He knows what he is doing, he has been doing this over 20 years. He also did all 4 tires on the vehicle in 1 1/2 hours. I had to swap the tires from the back to the front because my rear was too low for his machine. That was the only problem we ran into. Here are a few before/after pics. If anyone wants more I can post 'em. I also saw someone from "THEM!" drive by when I was walking in town, and I yelled "Fu*king bad***!" I saw the car at the last second, so I'm not sure what it was. That made my day.
They look real nice.........I'm glad everything worked out good for you!..........Is he still around the $100.00 mark?
I'm in central indiana and I don't shave tires but I shave gerbils sometimes... Seriously, poor boys tire here in Indy does this too and supposed to be pretty good at it and reasonably priced. I think they did the double white stripes on Eagletucky's Chevuick. They look sweeeeeeet. Not as sweet as a shaved gerbil of course, but still pretty damn sweet.
