  1. If you have an older car, and want to sell it to keep some economic "balance" in your household.......and the only one willing to pay your price is someone wanting to ship it overseas. What's your take on the situation? Me, I'd love, in a perfect world for it to stay here in hopes I may get it back someday. But, in reality, I gots ta pay my bills. What's YOUR opinion? My poll has the WRONG two questions as I didn't fill the shit out correctly. So, keep it here no matter how much you lose, or let it go? I know it's been discussed, but with our weakening "dollar" it's happeneing a lot more!!!!!!

I don't any difference in selling to a hot rodder over here or overseas as long as it gets a good home and you get paid. We all just want to have fun with our cars, wherever we are.

  3. in a perfect world i would also agree that they should stay here , but family first and sometimes you have to do what you gotta do to make the dough to take care of family bussiness..

  4. I know it's been beaten. BUT, with our weakening "dollar" it's happening more now than ever

  5. Don't worry Groucho, they get more love overseas than they do here.

I have really noticed in just the last 2 weeks the prices on our cars going down . This is starting ti suck !

  12. I took my 67 Grand Prix to Pomona Swap Meet yesterday. A really decent "driver" quality car all around. Skirts, 8-lugs, working hideaway lights, clean, reverb, ........I put $8500 "asking" on the sign. An American offered me $4000(a funny story in itself), and an Australian bought it for $6950.

  13. SO, you "ARE" aware?

I have noticed prices going up around here. I know it doesn't make sense but the last 3 auctions with old cars brought crazy money here. Way up in fact. I assume the housing market is worse in some places than it is here.

You got that right . I see more and more trucks carrying chrushed cars every day. Makes me sick .

  20. Guys, the cars go over, and many times, they come back to the US. I was stationed in Germany for three years, about twenty years ago. I saw some of the absolute best US cars over there being built by rodders and musclecar guys in England, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands...who cares WHERE they go! They are appreciated by guys that have a MUCH harder time getting parts for their cars than you could ever fear having.

I know of a '71 HEMI GTX that has been to the UK, back to FL, back to the UK, and back yet again to FL. And, a steel-bodied Deuce coupe that has had FOUR UK owneres and FOUR US owners since it was built in 1988. These things work in cycles. Blame the President all you want if our cars going overseas really bothers you, but he has exactly zip to do with it. It's a strong British pound and the Euro that gives them buying power here. Sell the car if the offer comes up that you can't refuse! Chances are, the car just might be back in the US within ten years - or less!

all i know is,,since money is tight now,,i recently put up a bunch of stuff for sale on the net,,

....,thing is,,i am not even trying to make a buck of this stuff,,,but just trying to get my money back...all but one item,,,i havent even got an email, offer or anything....

  22. Agree....think about it, I respect people who put their money where their mouth is, and when people are outlaying large amounts of money for a car, they generally make an effort to give them the love they deserve....

Myself, and a number of family & friends have bought cars from the US, and can garentee that each and every one looks/runs/drives better than when we first bought them.....

Whilst America is 'home', rodding/kustomising is universal, there are no borders.

    Cheers,

    Drewfus

    Dont forget Groucho,

whats a car that can be easily replaced over there is much rarer here. So you know that even if its bought to on-sell here in Australia, someone is going to own that Gran Prix and it will be their automotive love in their life.

Not alot of people here can afford to have a garage with multiple rides in it. that car if sold here will probably be a 20k car. So who ever buys it will really want it, not just buy it for the hell of it.

Also don't forget , when the yanky dollar was 1 for 2 aussie dollars alot of steel 32's went stateside, as even paying the shipping costs to get it there you could over double your money of what you would get for it here. So the tide does go both ways.

we're all buying up big now as it may come crashing down anytime so we're getting in now!

How would you feel if some local guy bought the car and then slowly trashed it and dented it and you got to see it around town knowing how you looked after it.

I always reckon best it be as far away as possible so you cant see it and as long as your happy with the money in your pocket then it should be all good.

it is hard to let some of them go though.

yer , I know stroker - good guy.

That will pay alittle over the 2/3 total cost of that three year leased Toyota you just got. Three years from now...no GP, no Toyota and another $3,000 cash missing outta your pocket....oh yeah, sorry I forgot, you were able to save alittle each month with "better" fuel economy.

I really hate to see my cars go overseas, I just really like seeing some of my old cars around.
I sold a 57 chevy to a guy in astralia which didnt bother me any, but I know I'll never see it again. I sold a 57 chevy 2dr post to a guy about a mile down the road from me and I see it out all the time.

  27. You're missing the "bigger" picture AGAIN. But, let's not go over that...AGAIN:cool: Your cookies-rock, your math, not so much. You've overlooked several things. But, that's NOT what this thread's about

I knew I had seen that car here on the HAMB, trying to remember who has it down here, I think it might be a south island car now......
don't stress like the people have been saying above when the USD is strong again anything really desirable will end up back over there.
