1950-1960 Show Car Phones & T.V.s

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Richard D, Jun 2, 2008.

  1. I remember in the old photos of show cars, many had phones and T.V.s in them. I think it would be neat to find an old car phone and hook it up to a hidden cellular. I looked at the http://www.hulger.com/ site, but these look more like house phones. I remember them being more fancy, like in Elvis' Gold Cadillac.

Maybe not that fancy, but somewhere in between.

An old retro T.V. would be neat, too. None of that bling-bling **** in the headrests, but the real old ones from the 50s-60s.

  2. yep. they are pretty cool in my opinion. those are some of the little details that most have forgotten. you would just throw in a dummy phone from a swap meet for 5 bucks though.

  3. TVs will be super cheap next February when they stop broadcasting ****og. We've had small black and whites that ran off about 12 volts through a bunch of D-cell batteries and would be easy to bury in a console. Hide a DVD player in the car somewhere and it can show anything you want.

I'm not sure the phones worked in those cars then, it was the 1980s before you really had good mobile phone technology, although I remember at least one 60's TV show they had a phone in the car and it "worked" .. I'm sure you can google up the details of how that stuff worked at the time. But no reason you can't even paint an old swap meet phone to match your car and just have it as a dummy. I think trying to make it work would be too complicated, only to have a phone that always has to be in the car, and costs you money every month. But it would be fairly simple to rig up a way to make it ring, you just need to supply the right voltage signal to it.

Just plugs into the base of your phone and you are away! Even think they do a blutooth one as well now.

Would solve the problem of having to wire one into an existing phone and the contract that would go with it.
