Hey Kansas City guys and gals. The family and I are in town for a week and are looking for car related things to see and do. Any suggestions for shops, shows or restaraunts etc. I appreciate the help.

Well, not car related, but the Arabia steamboat museum is pretty cool if you like history at all. Basically, it sank on the Missouri River, and then was dug up in a farmer's field (river changed course over the years). It was filled to overflowing with stuff for dry goods stores and a lot of it was recovered in good shape.

The International Raceway (not to be confused with the more widely known Kansas Speedway) is having a few local races.

Other than that, do a google search on Kansas City. Not a lot of car related stuff, but there are some other tourist type stuff to check out.

The steam ship would be #1 in my book! You can also jump on a tour bus and get a full guided trip of KC. I did that with my family. You can get off at any stop to check things out and get back on any other of the Grey line busses that come by because they all have the same route to get back where you started.
There is also Words of Fun and the Casinos for you and mama.

The kids might have a good time at Union Station/Science City. If the T-Bones are in town, they put on a good baseball show, very family oriented, with cheap admission, and cheap food. Cabelas and the Bass Pro Shop are fun to browse if you have any interest at all in outdoor stuff.

First Friday at the Crossroads Gallery district on the 6th.

Pete and Jakes is about fifteen minutes away in Peculiar, MO.

Not sure how old your kids are but there is a lot of stuff to do around Crown Center, Union Station, and Science City.

Power and Light District and the Country CLub Plaza would be a couple more places to go.

Don't think there are any shows or cruises this weekend.

Crown center, Union Station, and <ST1:p, WW I museum and the steamboat museum are all real close to each other and would be a very full day.

The Richard Petty driving experience will be at the race track this week.

The race track just happens to be where the T-Bones play and there are a ton of great restaurants and shopping right there as well. I’d spend some time out there if you have a chance. Great Wolf lodge is fun if your kids are the right age.

For shopping and fine dining, you can’t beat the Plaza.

There's also Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun if you like theme parks.

Definately go to the WWI museum!
There's also Worlds of Fun, Union Station (don't waste your time with 'Science City') and sample as many different BBQ styles as you can.
    I'll PM you my number.

If you're going to try the KC bbq you need to go out to Martin City to the Smokestack. Find the intersection of Holmes Road & I-435 (south central part of town) and go south on Holmes Road. The Smokestack is at the corner of Holmes & East 135th Street

The Truman Library is in Independence and worth the trip; you can tour Harry's house, too.

The old Independence jail is open to the public and you can view the cell where Frank James was incarcerated (not that big of a deal unless you're really into the James Gang history; and i'm not talking Joe Walsh & company).

Lakeside speedway, has the best dirt track racing around.

Come to Lawrence and hang out with all the Hippies downtown, or not

  22. You could stop by for a tour of our place, Hot Rod Express. Most alway's some cool non-HAMB type cars around, if you care to see that sort of stuff, and we're alway's happy to show folks around.

Hollywood cross is out that way too, if you're already going that far.

  24. +1 For Lakeside. That's Friday night in Kansas City, KS.

If, uh, you like cars, the KC Classic Auto Display in Lenexa, KS is OK. Wagner Auto Sales in Bonner Springs, KS sells some more high-end, top shelf old cars. Same neck of the woods as Lakeside.

Cabelas (sporting good store) in KCK is neat because it has a huge collection of stuffed deer and wildlife, plus a big aquarium. It is really very impressive in there.

World's of Fun is a big theme park that can eat up a day with the family. There are actually some pretty good rides in that place.

The Hot Rod Power Tour is driving through Topeka on Monday, June 9.

What do you like? It may just be here ...

Love the Plaza for people watching. You can see all the gold chainers driving through in their MB, Jags, BMW, Rolls and Bentleys. Usually some trophy wives shopping . Couple of good bars there and Westport is just up the road north.

Hey - we've got more fountains than Rome, more blvds than Paris, and the 2nd largest city park in the US (a couple acres shy of Central Park in NYC). M&Ms were invented here. Walt Disney got his start here. Most ALL of the B-25s in WWII were made here. The "Plaza" (aka "Country Club Plaza") is the oldest shopping center in the United States...

Lots of weird haunted shit here, too:

Forget the Plaza, that bullshit's for yuppies!

Go to Stroud's for chicken & ribs (T-shirt slogan- "we choke our own chickens")
Garozzo's is the best italian, we call it the "Intl House of Garlic"
Get a steak @ the Majestic Steakhouse & go upstairs to the cigar bar after.

Take the Mrs to Weston for the day, just 20min north of the airport & hit the Irish bar 100' below ground or go antique shopping all around the town.

Be sure to go listen to some KC blues or jazz!

If you don't have a hotel, check out the Savoy on 9th St, it's 100yrs old & cool as hell! The seafood in the restraunt is fab too.
