On a stock Chevy 250 you have a PCV in the back end of the valve cover that goes to the vac of the carb and a breather cap for oil input. On my offy valve cover I dont want to drill on top where the fins are. Could a guy use the ugly sealed oil cap that has a top hole for PCV and grommet and run it to the carb and then use a single side breather on the back half of the valve cover? Seems like it would work, its the same on opposite ends. Any thoughts?
I'm running a similar setup on my 292 right now...breather at the back, PCV at the front. Separate oil fill cap though. I'll shoot a pic sometime later today and post.
On my 235 I used a rubber grommet and a late model PCV valve in the downdraft tube hole in the block. Routed that back up to the carb (380 holley). I have a chrome vented breather in the valve cover. Seems to work really good.
It sounds good. As i understand it, you are just reversing the air flow direction. One problem that I've run into recently when you move PCV locations is that you have to make sure that there is ample oil baffling to prevent excessive oil consumption. I'm thinking the 6 cyl oil fill tube would be far enough away from the spray to prevent this. I left the stock oil fill alone but added a modified hot rod side breather for the PCV hook up by epoxying the top closed so the air has to come out of the VC.. My roadster and a friends 40 sedan has this hook up in use with no ill affects. The only real advantage to this is that the hose is closer to the carb for looks.
