i just heard the news. he is one of the all time greats. a quote from him i heard on the news "i want to be remembered for being one of the originators of rock and roll" no doubt in my mind that he will be!
Man this ****s. I swear I was born too late, all the greatest are going. At least we have their music to live on.
In 1955 when Bo lived in Washington, D.C., we would skip school (11th grade) and drive past his modest neighborhood row house just to look at his big, shiny new Cadillac limo. And we never stopped, just crept by slowly, savoring our nearness to celebrety. Back in school no one would believe what we had done.
I'll be playing this song when i DJ this weekend. Here's one of my all time favorites for you guys to enjoy ! <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/qs8FJergjas&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/qs8FJergjas&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
his last full set ever was played here in australia he ended the set by saying "keep that vegemite by your bed and youll be alright man" what a cool cat. R.I.P
Daly City, Calif, 1961. My mom was ill and she gave me 35 cents to go to the saturday afternoon movies at the Serra Theater. I was a young man with a lot on my mind, worrried for my mom, and going to the show was my relief from it all. I saw Bo Diddley in a "short", the 5 minute movie shown before the feature, and I was blown away! I Never saw anything like him...square gitfiddle, girls swingin' an swayin', coil cords on their instruments swayin to the beat. Made a BIG impression on me and the music I like. R.I.P. Bo
Met Bo Diddley when the local public radio station (I was an on-air volunteer and a member of the BofD) sponsored a concert for him. This was in Kodiak (not a large town), Alaska and the turnout was spectacular. He acted like he had all the time in the world for those of us who came backstage (RHIP) and a great personality. He was truly an original and he is properly credited by so many who came after him. dj
I was working at a nightclub in the late 80s and Bo was the headliner for the night. He pulled up in a modest Cadallic and when I opened the door and said "Welcome to the Hop Mr. Diddley" he replied "Mr. Diddley was my father, just call me Bo." He went into perform and after the first song, he stopped and said that he wanted all the guys working outside (doorman, valets, etc) to stop working and come in and enjoy his show. We did and what a show it was. Afterwards, he came outside and sat on the bench, smoked a cigar and just chatted with a bunch of us like he had known us for years. One great artist and a truely great man. He will be missed.
I'll watch my language this time. But let me just say I'm a firm believer that all the energy from those early 50's a-bomb tests in the American desert were stored up in and then released through Bo's chopped up Gretsch guitar. As well regarded as he is, still under-rated. Yet another hero gone. RIP Bo
Don't bother to rest in peace Bo, Rock On!! I want heaven to be fun when I get there. Thanks for the music and the dance.
Was mid 1983, Ft. Lauderdale FL. I was there to pick up a new Cessna 210. It wasn't ready yet and I spent the night there. I got a ride to a supper club on US 1 and Bo Diddley was there performing. He just put on one hell of a show. Wasn't too many people in there and when he took a break he came and sat down at our table and chatted, probably for the most part of a half hour. I'll never forget that night. RIP Bo .. See ya ...
1965 at Deermoors in Wichita thats the first time I saw Bo Diddley live. One of those shows you never forget. The place was rocking so good you couldn't see your self in the mirrors on the wall. There will never be another Bo Diddley.
RIP Bo , may your soul be in heaven long before the devil knows your dead! wonder whos gonna be out at crossroads the next few days looking to make a deal.. godspeed Bo!
Another of the early greats gone..he will be remembered for being one of the original pioneers of the starting of a never to die era....."Rock and Roll". Play on buddy.
He was scheduled to play Rockin' 50's Fest in Green Bay last year but suffered a stroke while performing in Iowa one day earlier... This guy influenced early Rock n Roll as much as any artist... RIP
