UK is not a problem, but the Czech Republic (and perhaps Poland) has the old car ban.

Most US manufacturers sold cars all over the world to whoever they could and still do. So, it is not like a new thing that US made cars are sold outside the US. If someone in another country likes our old cars enough to go through the huge hassle of getting one from here and paying the price you want on top of it as well as most likely the huge extra cost for fuel and taxes most other countries have, then chances are it is going to be highly valued and taken care of. Better than being less than appreciated here and maybe eventually ending up on the scrap pile. A good home, is a good home. Just like people, cars can always make the return trip in the future too if desired.

I don't see anything wrong with this. In fact, it makes me want to go over there for a visit:

how's this... I had 2 1967 Sunbeam Alpines. which were made in the UK. I sold the parts car first, and it went back to the UK. they are all rusted out over there and are hard to find.

the second one was one I did over 100 hours of bodywork to fixing rust. it was running , in primer and ready for paint... that one went to the UK also, and the same guy who bought that one for the UK guy bought my 52 chevy truck for an Australian guy.

I aslo had a "roller" 1960 El Camino that went to Thailand. I thought that was odd. I picture it now tied to a couple of oxen getting towed down the street

I had no problem with any of these deals leaving the country.

my 49 sedan went to a guy in Sacramento who bought it for his kid who didn't seem to even give a fuck that his old man was buying him a car. THAT is the one I regret selling. I wanted it to go to a lowrider guy who would appreciate it and all the accessories it had. I'm pretty sure this kid is not going to give it the good home it deserved.

I figure if someone is importing a car to another country it has to be going to a good home. no one would spend a small fortune importing a car anf then let it rot outside in the rain

Didn't this get all talked up before? I've sold a few to Mexico, which while I felt like the guy who bought them will appreciate them it bugged me a little just because I drive over there everyday and know what happens to the 99% cars that go over there (they get beat to shit and when they can't be fixed anymore they get crushed and go to China).

Still, I didn't sell anything rare and hard to find so it's OK by me. Plus, maybe the new owner is going to treat the car better than I did. It was unrestored and sat in my driveway for 2 years. He got it running and wants me to find him more.

  7. as long as the money's real and green.. or whatever color they print it in now... I could care less where it goes. When a car I can't even get a states guy to go more than scrap on will sell for $2500 to a guy from overseas, how can I go wrong? If you want it to stay here, then you buy it.

Next time you should read the rest of my post ... and you should do whatever you want to do, doesn't mean I gotta like it.

  9. This "OUR CARS" mentality a lot of people here and on some other US-hosted boards is a little weird.....!

But i'll add my uninformed, ignorant opinion, free of charge!!;)

If it's a case of "OUR CARS", i'll stand up for all the other Aussies here on the board, and ask all of you with a pick-up - actually, they are a "ute", but that's for another rant!!:D;) -to box them up and send them "BACK" to one of the Aussies here on the board... Because as any real hot-rodder knows, they are an "AUSSIE" vehicle.

And if you happen to have a GTO from the last few years, put them in the box too. Yep, another one of "OUR" vehicles gone overseas! ( even though most of them were produced in Mexico:(!!)

Groucho's original premise was to maintain "economic balance" in the household. Let's face it, when selling something, it's money in your pocket that counts.

And a yen, or a Euro, or a pound, or an Aussie dollar, or (in my case:D!) a kroner, will all fill your pockets nicely!

As a last paranoid thought, if all "American" cars stayed in America, the sight of trailerloads of crushed cars would be more common, because there are not enough hot-rodders and restorers in the US combined to save even just the production-years covered by the HAMB.....!

Hotrodders are hotrodders, no matter where they are. Sell it, and move on....

what makes you think the USA is the best country in the world?

As for cars heading out of the USA... our dollar will probably match or exceed yours soon, it's inevitable that people are going to sell to overseas buyers.

If somebody had the cash, and I needed the money, and the offer was 2x or more than what it was worth, I'd have to let it go- no matter where it went. In the long run we're all 6 feet under anyway, so where a car ends up is not all that important.

What bothers me more than anything, is the scrap yards that crushed rows and rows of old 1940-50's cars with drivetrains still in them, and sent the scrap to China for shit money. $300 a car for scrap, when parted out intelligently on the net they'd bring $1500-2000 a car broken up- or were restoreable. And they were only getting that good price recently- previously a good scrap price was only $60-100 a car. Hell one engine is worth more than that. It's a perfect example of laziness, stupidity, and taking easy money rather than putting some effort in and foresight.

so my vote is sell it complete and let it go overseas and be enjoyed and cherished- rather than crush it and let it get melted down in China, and come back as some cheap DVD player that lasts one year and breaks.
