I know complaining to the U.S.post office ain't gonna help but dammit,,,you guys know how I fell this is a quality publication that well be kept for years and packaged about as well as anything could be to avoid damage and the idiot mailman is still able to trash the book!

Sorry for the rant,,,but I'm still a little upset! HRP

THAT would p-ss me off too...those mags aren't cheap!! I would write a letter to Rodders Journal asking them if they have come accross this problem and how THEY handle it...they have a contract with the post office or some other fulfillment center and don't expect their mags to be destroyed. Once you have that info bring the mag and the info to the post office and complain about their delivery and your carrier....

To stop the rural mail delivery person from bending up my magazines and mail, I went and got the LARGEST mail box I could find. The Rodder's Journal will lay flat ... in my mail box.

    Problem Solved :D

My mailman once rolled up my magazine and tried to shove it into my mail slot, it got stuck and he ripped the cover off trying to force it in there and ripped and crumpled most of the pages. he could have avoided all of that if he just left it flat and slid it in there like a normal person.

  7. I put a big label on the mailbox that says "Please do not fold magazines" and they fold them anyway.

Maybe the secret is to get a huge mailbox, so even something huge like a "Goodguys Gazette" can fit in there without needing to be folded. If they don't make mailboxes that big, maybe that would make a good metalworking project.

not mail, mut I lost it on the UPS guy here @ work when he delivered some parts I got from National Chevy.

I realise it wasn't his fault, that the damage was done long before he got to it, but ******* I needed to get mad at someone, right? I know karma is gonna kick my *** for it in the long run

I solved my torn and beatup magazines problem by going to The Hot Rod Company (sidevalve) Mike, who is an alliance vendor here and never...never had so much as a mark on my new Rodder's Journal, as well as all the others I get from him.

Why would you still have a mail slot if you were getting magizines? Wouldn't you just go and buy a mail box to solve your problems. And before you blame it on your carrier maybe think because of automation your mags. were ripped up by a machine. Just look at the bottom, if they have a bar code on them they were run by a machine not by a human. So ease up on the carriers! Oh by the way I work for the USPS. Thanks

I could relate to this, hell, I dont even have a regular route person coming to my house everyday, it's a new face everyday. One of the guys loves to slam the lid shut all the time, soo loud I could it in the house with the music on, all the windows and doors shut. I keep getting mail and important do***ents for people that lost the house years ago!! Went I went to the local post office and told them about it they said there isnt anything they can do about it!

Mine used to come in a box but the last couple have just been in a thin envelope. I have been lucky so far I haven't had any damaged.

I know it's just a matter of time before I get some screwed up ones. Personally, I don't think the envelope provides enough protection, they should have stuck with the box.

I guess TRJ is trying to save some money.

I used to have this one part-time, ***hole mailman that always folded my magazines across the spine rather than longways. And my mailbox was plenty big to just lay the magazines in it:confused:. I don't know why he spent the time and effort to **** up my magazines. The local postmaster and I were on a first name basis...:D That carrier was a real tool. The rest, no problem. Mike

as a retired mailman I have to agree with one thing, if you have a wwII mailslot and you get a monthly pkg what can the carrier do? Some people used to ***** because I left it by the door, the next would ***** because I "shoved it in the box' CAN'T WIN MAN!!!as been suggsted buy a mailbox big enough to accept the mags.not to be an ***hole, but think before you go *******, maybe there is a simple solution, thank God I'm retired LOL you brought up an neverending dilema.....

Mine comes in a fairly thick cardboard envelope with a plastic sealed, inner liner. My rural mail carrier usually brings it into my porch, not leaving it in the box (she's great!!). On the other hand,I recently got an envelope from the post office saying sorry this is all we got/ have left and just the shredded cover of a not very important mag (not cars:) ).

I'd talk to your carrier personally and ask how they'd like to deliver your important magazines and then also contact RJ.

and just what machine smashed them into my mailbox?

I was just complaining to my better half about this. Mine comes in a cardboard envelope that would protect it just fine. BUT mr mailcarrier takes it upon himself to bend it at a 45* angle to make it fit inside the oversized mailbox. When I get it I have to fight to get it out... its bent (but not creased) and one corned is always crushed.

I have to put the blame squarely on him.

(granted I'm sure the carriers are more sympathetic and better looking in Milwaukee)

  18. I have had some other mags come damaged. I called and they sent me a new issue, or offered to extend my sub another month. Never subscribed to RJ, don't know their policy.

My mail slot is built into my house, it's plenty wide for magazine's and I know 100% it was him because the magazine was rolled up and still jammed in my mail slot. Needless to say I have a different mail man and he is WAY better than the fat piece of **** that used to deliver my mail, the "new" mailman is in his 60's and he and I even talked one day about my old cars in the driveway.

I feel your pain. 50% of the time my Rodders Journal has some damage. I complained to the lady stuffing it in my box and to the post office. A waste of time because they do not care. I called the Rodders Journal and they sent me a brand new one in a box, no charge.

Unfortunately, some mail (and other parcel) delivery people are only that... "Delivery people". Their only concern is that they meet the time requirements before their next break. Yesterday, I watched the UPS lady use her foot to kick a box out of the truck, down the steps to the curb. She then picked it up to carry it into the technical college. She did this right in front of the entry way. It sure seemed to take her a long time to get a signature for that package.

I have also seen others that would treat every package as if it was their first born child. The worst part is that the good ones don't get paid any better than the not so good ones.

no way I'd subscribe to Rodders Journal. I buy them local just for this reason.

as for stupid mailmen... mine folds everything that can be folded and puts a rubberband around it, including my mint copy of Motor trend from 1950 I bought just for the cover photo of 3 1949 chevy customs. yes the seller should have put stiff cardboard in there, but the mailman should not fold things that say do not fold on them.

  23. Used to have a young man who was a car guy for a mailman; he'd stop and ******** in my driveway if I was out there since I was at the end of his route.

I might have you all beat. The UPS guy showed up with my new cylinder heads. He slung one under his arm and threw one over his shoulder. Unfortunately it just kept on going and went right over his back and down onto the sidewalk. We both stood there agast until I could muster, "Those are $1600 dollar cylinder heads, who do I send the machine shop bill to, you or UPS?"

Even with a rural mailbox, mine too was crumpled this month. I nearly hit the roof. Took pics of the envelope, was ready to have someone's ***. When i finally chilled out and opened it, the mag was safe inside. Thank God TRJ puts 'em in a pretty solid package. Sorry to hear about your copy, man. $15 for a ****ed up mag is no good.

I guess I'm lucky, I always get the older, more resepctful mailmen. One is a guy in his early sixties, and the one that subs for him is a guy in his early fifties that used to be my neighbor. Never had a bent magazine.

Usually the UPS guys and the FedEx guys are pretty good too. When I bought some flathead cylinder heads, the UPS guy actually dropped the box and bent the corner. Instead of just saying f*ck it and leaving it on the door step, he rang the doorbell and waited for me to answer the door (which took several minutes). He then apologized for dropping it and asked if I would open it and check for damage. So, I opened it and thankfully the guy I bought them from packaged them VERY good with a wooden structure covered in two layers of thick cardboard. They weren't damaged, and when the guy saw they were flathead cylinder heads, we talked about what I was building and about his grandfather's hot rod. Very nice guy and went out of his way to make sure everything was okay.

Yeah,,that's a great idea Mr. Retired Mailman,,,a bigger mailbox,,,

Except,,,I already have a rural box,,,big enough to hold everybodys mail in my neighborhood!

Simple solution,,,Government postal service hiring rural delivery personal that delivers mail in the condition that they would expect in their own mail box,,,BRILLIANT! HRP

BTW,,I have added photos to the first post,,,,

I have to commend our "postmaster."
He does stuff the junk mail into the box,but usually includes a "too large to deliver" card for window pickup of my TRJ.

He has a neat dress code too-worn the same too-small rolled-up-sleeve white shirt with the topographic map dirt swirls on it for the last few years.
    He's okay-just not a snappy dresser?
