I used to buy VW's, make 'em run then drive them down to TJ, sell them to the used car dealers.
walked around with some pesos in my pocket, never had a problem.

Your wrong man, No disrespect but you are wrong ! Read my other posts on TJ upholstery Threads. It isn't safe there right now unless its mid day and you have 5 or 6 guys with you. The average joker that walks around solo or the intimidated gringo couple that shops around is asking for trouble right now. Take it from someone who used to do a lot of business down there and has been visiting for years. The whole place used to be tourists from all over and military boys drinking, eating Taco's,and checkin out the ****y bars....not any more. Last time i went it was a ghost town, tourists and a few local policia were kidnapped.....and that was on a Friday afternoon !

To the person whos relative is flying in to TJ,just don't understand why she isn't flying in to San Diego ?

Hey brother Lalo, I saw the aftermath of kidnapping with my own eyes. They shut streets down everywhere, military armed with M16's driving all over the damn place.

I wouldn't cross over not even in a taxi. I have an uncle that works for the U.S. Boarder patrol/immagration and he updates us every week and got to say it is not safe. I use to go every three months for business until it started getting crazy. Last week they stopped a bus that was headed to Ensenada and pulled people out and held them for ransom they are even doing it to taxi p***engers. It's a war between the Feds and the Cartels. Last month they shot up the police station. Come On you do not want to go there. Oh and there's a new law any car crossing into Mexico with tinted windows will have to remove the tint, doesn't matter where you are from.

Have her meet you in San Isidro it's less than 10 miles from T.J. and it's faster. Good Luck.
    Don't cross.

wow..intead of making a law to remove the tint from the windows they should make a law that you cant enter Mexico or TJ without 100 rounds of ammo and an m-16..maybe things would start to look up if some of the bad guys were laying in ****** puddles in the center of the road..just a thought ,, but im radical that way..so I just woulnt go.

thanks everyone for the comments, it was helpful. everything went without a problem. she crossed at SY and we met at McDonalds. really easy, it was just before lunch on Tuesday, and there were no waits for anything. same thing on return Saturday late afternoon. She did have some mace, but said she always felt safe with plenty of people around.

she flew into TJ because she was able to get round trip from Monterey for $100.

she was an Au Pair for our kids several years ago, we had a great reunion at Crystal Pier hotel. bonus fun was that grunion were running Friday night.
