what ford transmissions will bolt to a 352 fe.?? i have two options right now to go with on my 1940 ford. either a 302 sb or a 352 bb. but as for transmissions all i have its the c6 from the 302. what transmissions will bolt to the 352?? email me if any one knows. thanks.

  2. The C-6 from the 302 won't bolt on the FE block. There is a C-6 just for the FE and also the earlier Cruso-matic 3 speed auto. The stick shift parts are pretty plentiful for them. I suppose there is adapters around to the 40 type trans but not sure. There never was a C-4 trans to the FE block stock but may be after market.

I've had both kinds of motors in my '40 at different times (although the FE in mine was a 390). If your choice is between the 302 and 352, go with the smaller motor. The FE carries way too much weight and bulk to only get 50 cubic inches in return. The tradeoff looks better if you have an engine with around 390-428 inches, but I still think a Windsor based motor (i.e., 408 inch 351W) is a better choice unless you want the fashion statement of having the FE. I ran a C6 behind the FE in my coupe; was a little bit of a tough install, but mostly trouble-free, despite considerable abuse.

You're limited to ******s that was used on FEs 352/390/428. You'd be better off with a 351 W or C, much lighter more MPG & parts are plentifull & relatively cheap in comparison.

  5. I agree with George. Since you have the option of using a 302 I wouldn't hesitate. Also you'll be a lot happier in the way it drives with less weight on the front axle.

Got a 351 w and AOD in my 40 tudor. Gets 16 mpg around town, cruises at 70 mph and 1800 rpm with a 350 rear. I like it!!
