Aligning a lowered car! What a PAIN!!!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bad Bob, May 21, 2008.

  1. if all else fails, check lee's alignment in gardena.
last i was over there he had a 29 on the rack/pit!

  2. On this topic, but geographically useless for most of you guys on this thread - Hoover Wheel Alignment in Minneapolis did a great job on my Biscayne. Very old school work, and the guys did it well.

I gotta read up, I have to do my own just to set the toe. My 51 Merc is making a right and left turn at the same time, while the wheel is going straight. What a mess.

If anyone in Pasadena wants an old car done right, take it to :

    Stanyer & Edmondson Inc.
    400 S. Fair Oaks Ave
    Pasadena, CA

They have been in business since 1922 for a reason.

Ask for George, old mechanic with a pit and knows what he is doing.

If you don't want to do your own, look for a good frame shop. They would be able to align it and if they needed to tweek the frame to get enough camber, they would have the tools to do it. But before I took it in to anywhere, I'd ask around and get a recommendation. You won't know if you have a good alignment for about six months, then you'll be able to see whether your tires are wearing evenly.

I think I got that Fas Traxx tool at Eastwood for about $175.....it's been a while so it could be more. It paid for itself already several times.

    Great post Bob..
I really need to align my 53 too, but my car won't go on the machine of the shop i deal with..it's too low to even get on it.
Thought about just doing it myself, and with the info in this thread i'm thinking that's the route i'll take.
    Thanks for the info guy's.

Let us know how it turns out. FWIW, I havent had any trouble getting my 35 aligned here in Oklahoma.......... I guess because we are so far behind, that we are still waiting on the computer age to kick in! :D

You might call Vodies in Santa Ana. Several yrs ago the installed all my new
Kanter parts and my lowering springs from San Jose springs in my 49 Merc
They also did my low 78 Ranchero. Got the camber back by grinding etc.
That 78 has been lowered lots a yrs and does not wear the wide tires on
the front. If it hasn,t changed hands they could do it.
