well i wanted to do one of those to cover up some of the flaws there is a bad spot on the edge of the wheel well on the drive side fender... and a REALLY bad touch up job on the front of the hood..
If you can lay some as nice as these, go for it! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=2865103&postcount=33
i normally wouldn't mind every vehicle before this has been flat black.. but these are the only 2 flaws... and i would really like to cover them up... i really don't wanna try to match this paint because i have no idea what the color it is...
Thems easy to lay out too bad they suck on that tbird.. Id agree save your money for the paint for the flames and get the truck spotted in correctly. Looks nice as it is. dave
I vote no on the flames, and no on the scallops. Maybe some pinstripes. Lowering it might look better. That color might possibly be Porsche "Guards Red". It's a standard bright red color that paint shops will mix up if someone comes in and says they want "bright red". Although that red looks slightly darker in that picture than Porsche Guards Red. Some paint shops have a computerized camera system that can identify a color for a good match-up.
Wasnt there a HOTROD magazine truck that was white with red scallops? A bonneville pusher car or something?
im plaining on putting some steelies and moons.. maybe... i love the look of the solid wheel moon cap and ww.. but i have to figure out the lug pattern... i had posted a thread and the consensus was that it was full size ford pick up lug pattern i have some chrome smoothies in that pattern and it was too big so i think its small lug pattern... i have some other wheels that pattern from my ranger ill see if thats it... then i can begin my search for wheels.. i really dont care for the centerlines maybe ill throw them on my moms mustang if thats the lug pattern...
The So-Cal Speed shop truck, it is white with Red Scallops if I remember correctly, very nice piece. Oh.... I vote no flames.
Flames have been done to death. Scallops ain't far behind. Pinstripes and maybe some fighter plane style "nose art" or somethin' if you have to hide a bad spot.
I say neither. I am thinking of coming up with a speed shop or F100 logo for my 55. Somewhat similiar to So-Cal's
I like flames....especially on a round bodystyle. But a mid 50's f100 looks good with scallops too. Here's an idea....do what YOU like instead of what afew people on the internet think!
scallops usually smell pretty bad after a couple of hours in the hot sun,,,,,, hard to pull off a good flame job on those f100s,,not impossible,,but kinda challenging to do a nice layout,,,,,, id do some subtle striping,,,,,
With the wheels you are going to use, the scallops are closer to the same era. Flames would be more the era of spoked mags. Either would be a good addition. Leaving it plain, it would be like every other F100 ever built. adding striping in 2008 will make it look like every other F100 built in the last 3 years. Nobody will notice your truck if it's too generic.
I've seen an Effie with a paint job similar to the Pierson brothers coupe. The only difference was that instead of white in the middle it was beige. Looked killer! I saw it at Goodguys Indy, maybe 2002? I have a pic of it somewhere. Here's a pic of the coupe. <IMG class=" image_border " id=ctl00_ctl07_ctl00_ImageLargePhoto style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 0px; BORDER-LEFT-WIDTH: 0px; BORDER-BOTTOM-WIDTH: 0px; BORDER-RIGHT-WIDTH: 0px" alt="" onerror="javascript:this.src='http://static.streetrodderweb.com/_SiteConfigs/_global/images/no_photo_300px.gif';" src="http://images.streetrodderweb.com/milestones/0106sr_miles08_z.jpg"> The truck also had a similar wheel treatment.
Inverse of the So-Cal would be cool. Ermine White with a heavy black border or Black with a heavy white border. Maybe even Taupe.
the problem is i like both... and im not to sure what to do... but i am leaning towards something similar to the socal truck..
I agree with the wheel comment. Destroy those as soon as possible. PLEASE don't put flames on that truck. I personally vote NO for either but if you absolutely have to hide the flaws and those are your only two choices, use some subtle scallops. I like more simple paint schemes. These are my two Effies. The '54 has some flaws here and there but the paint looks decent so it'll be stayin for a while. When I do re-paint it, it's going to be a darker root beer flaked bottom with a white top, running boards and grill. Good luck mike.
